Going to buy a ZZR250

Hey all. Ive got this lined up...

I had it checked out by mt eden motorcycles, it came out good as in the prepurchase check.

It failed regarding the steering head bearings however, with the sidenote "needs overhaul" but i was told this would be about $150.
the tyres are noted to be worn, but they look prety good tread to me..

now, the compression.

115psi for both chambers (or whatever theyre called). i was told this is good for this bike, but factory it wouldve had about 140psi?

I have made an offer, and pretty much sealed the deal with the seller. Any thoughts on this bike anyone? if all goes well, i should be riding it on friday

I have owned one and it was simply a great bike! Congrats on sealing the deal for it. I am sure you'll love it as much as I did. I am loving that beautiful blue colour too

Looks okay from a distance in those photos, any idea why the repaint job? Sounds like a good bargain for a '95 machine.

The ZZR250 motorcycle has a good sound reputation- enjoy!

Hi Mokoro,

Twas my first bike the ole zzr250. Good choice for starting off and skilling up on (was for me anyway). Good upright position for general touring but if you need to up the speedage, slide your ass back a bit and assume the 'sporty posi' brudder! Mine was a solid bike (90 model) and just kept on going and going... just like the ole Energiser Bunny brudder.

sounds like ive got myself onto a good bike then

ive seen the bike upclose and test rode it, it rides nice, and the paint job is very , very good... factory looking even.
It will be my 2nd bike, my 1st being a RG150, i had a while back, little 2 stroke thing.
I suspect the repaint was done due to earlier damage maybe, but theres no obvious signs of crash, and it wasnt picked up in the test.

Cant wait to get it now, and do some big rides on it

...so the GSXR1000 will disappear from beside your name will it?

Great bike. My mate started on one and for the two years he rode it he had no problems. The only bad thing he had to say was that it was a bit gutless but i suppose that isn't to bad when you consider his definition of gutless. Have fun.

These are great bikes i had one of these for a good 5 years also taught the wife and her sister to ride on it, they are now both on bikes over 1000cc. mine was a 95 as well nz new tho

The cam chain usually needs replacing somewhere around 35-40,000kms, make sure you service them every 5000-6000kms, the tappets need checking every service. I replaced the rear with a 130 wide tire instead of the factory 140, made it turn for me, but that was personal preference.
In the 5 years i had it i put a good 50,000kms on this bike, only problem i never really had was that it did not like starting after it been on its side, which happen a few times when you are teaching people to ride on it, these were all at stand still tho.
I put really good brake pads in to help it stop alot better, and other than not much else needs doing, i replaced the chain once in that whole 50,000kms and didn't need to change the sprokets either. I had to end up repainting mine a year before i sold it, cause of a crack in the front nose, and a crack in the panel beside feet, it was cheaper to repaint whole bike, than to get a sticker made up for that one panel.

I also rode one for two years as a learner. Did some good distances on it and found it very comfortable, with adequate/good performance. A very good way to get ready for something really zesty!. Have fun.

ok now im getting dicked around by this guy, hes saying hes been getting alot of interest recently (maybe from people in this msg board? :P )

I didnt think that was going to be an issue, seeings how we pretty much came to a verbal agreement. I suspect this guy will disregard the "ono" part of his price now, and push for 4k.

EVEN THOUGH, ive spent $50 geting it checked by a bike shop. now he can say it was checked, and say it passed fine. absolute arsehole..

ok people help me out. im after a 4 stroke mid 90's if possible 250cc bike, comfortable but fastish, and i have around $3500 cash give or take.
Im in auckland as well

(next option might be a 90 gsxr250, painted red.. but im more keen to get somthing newer)

ps. the gsxr by my name, when i was creating this account i thought that was the field you put the bike you WANT, not have. and seeings how i didnt have a bike id feel stink leaving it empty

Probably not what your after, but how about a 1997 Suzuki TU250 with less than 12,000 k's, very tidy, Reg and Warrant for $3,000. ??

It's the GN engine in a retro style naked thingy - ah, find a pic online.
