Does anyone want my 10 grand ?

First, I'm new here, so hi to everyone. Anyway, I can't seem to find anyone that wants my money.

I went into Motorad today, seriously looking at a new bike priced at around $10k. I moped around the shop for a bit, while the salespeople finished discussing what they were having for lunch. Eventually someone approached me (I'm assuming it was because he wanted to get to the other side of the shop).

"Hi, yeah, I'm seriously looking at that bike there"

"Oh yeah great, popular model, nice bike"

"Err, great... (explain what I'm looking for in a bike)"

"Right, yeah... (spots and waves to his mate who entered the shop) Umm, yeah have a look at it, it's right there"

And that was it. That was his entire pitch to get me to drop 10 grand. He simply walked away to talk with whoeverthefuck came in and left me standing there.

If I can get away with it, I won't ever go into that shop again, but I'm pretty set on a new Kawa ER-6. Anyone else in the Wellington area sell them, or do I once more have to put up with shocking service and purchase my bike from Mordor itself ?

    Firstly Welcome to the site.

Second, I'll take 10 Grand from anyone willing to make a donation.

Third, Plenty of other shops that do give a bit of customer service. Find one that does and avoid the others like the plague.

Bit of a haul from where you are, but the guys at Bayride in Tauranga have always been really helpful to me. First place I go for anything bike related apart from petrol.

Being the manager of a vehicle retail outfit I'm an constantly dumbfounded by sales people who can't perform basic duties, ie sell the fucken vehicle. I don't care if the last 100 people you've spoken to are timewasters, the next punter could be a buyer. Nothing irks me more in my job then incompetent lazy sales people. I'd talk to the sales manager or owner and highlight the issue to him/her. Hopefully if they care about their business they'll do something to sweeten the deal for you and also give the sales person a grilling.

Basics in selling: Never judge a book by it's cover. Everyone is a buyer until you determine otherwise.

Vehicle sales is quite a social job, but while you are at work you are there to sell, not read the paper, make personal calls, and talk to mates. We are lucky enough to be able to actually do all these things and more at work, but when there are customers in the shop they are your first priority.

Better still if you tell the manager, the sales rep get a tune up AND you take your business elswhere.

Bugger mate, not the sort of thing you were expecting, but hey, its their loss not yours. Good luck on the bike front
To every man upon this earth
    Death cometh sooner or late
And how can a man die better
    Than facing fearful odds
For the ashes of his fathers
And the temples of his Gods

I wouldn't just judge the business by one experience. Talk to the manager and see what kind of response you get. If he/she takes interest then maybe it's worth doing business with them, as you will always be remembered as a 'special attention' customer as you could've taken your money elsewhere but choose otherwise. (all customers are important, from the one buying a $5 gasket through to the one buying his 2nd $40,000 Ducati. You will not be remembered as a 'problem customer' so don't worry about that.) Be reasonable in your approach, do not rant and rave. Just bring to their attention the situation as you see it. If they don't seem interested in what you have to say, then most certainly walk away. If you can't get good service from the manager before you've handed over your money, imagine what it will be like after they've taken your coin.

I hate to say it. But the others in Wellington city are no better either from my experience.
I have found that Kerry & Robin in the parts & accesories at Motorad/Sawyers are bloody brilliant I have "followed" Kerry from another bike shop in Wellington to Motorad due to his attitude and willingness to have my business.
Im in the market for a new bike myself and Im finding it really hard to part with my cash due to apathetic sales staff. Im in sales myself in a high dollar value market and I cannot believe how lax the service is in general in this town when it comes to buying a bike.
Well Im off to Nelson next week and I will be sticking my head into Thunderbike as they have a couple of bikes that would suit me. It will be interesting to see if they are any better.
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face.

The few times my Dad has delt with Motorad, they've been pretty good. The guy was probably letting you have a look and I'm sure if you asked to know more about it they would've talked about it in depth.

They gave us a pretty good trade in deal with our old CRF150, that's why I'm defending them

Excellent point. My last two bike purchases have been private sales because bike shops haven't taken me seriously - you lose not me.
