Is this heaven?

We have been discussing the 'need' to get a second bike so we can go riding together. The Hornet is the wifes affordable dream bike, but it is a little high for her to get the feet down safely. So we were looking at some other options, perhaps the Kawasaki ER-5 or ER6, or maybe the Suzuki Bandit.

Having Thursday and Friday off work we went around the bike shops looking at options. The whole time the Hornet was always at the top of the desire list and eventually got the better of us

Thanks to the friendly team at MotoMart on Friday afternoon we are now the proud owners of another CB900 Hornet

The new one gets the lowered seat we had made and I have found a place in the UK that makes a rear shock that claims to lower the seat height by 50mm. If this does not work I will get the new Hornet (damn) and we will sell the other one.

Instead of a new shock why not just get new dog legs in the suspension made up to lower the bike & keep the standard shock?

There was a vertically challenged aquaintance of mine was considering buying a Hornet and wanted to know if the ride height could be lowered. He asked me to take my bike to a local bike workshop (Alan Delatour's) to have it assessed as to whether this was an option.

Alan looked at it and said that it could be lowered without much problem. So there may be another option.

That's a nice looking pair you have there. It's nice having a matching set in the shed. Mrs Grumpy and myself both ride Z1000"s and we get some interesting comments when we are out on them. It's easy to trick them up a little as well. You just buy the same part for the Mrs's bike as well.

mmmm Nice taste in bikes guys.
Sometimes the bikes the I've had are lowered slightly by lowering the forks & shortening the springs a bit if the bikes not to far off tippee toe footing. Talk to a mechanics they may be able to lower the bike without being too drastic.
There may even be a compatible shorter shock around locally you could try.
How short is your wife, I've often thought the hornet would be a possibility if lowered for myself- I'm less than 5ft 1". Haven't really got around to trying one out for height yet. Are they about the same as a monster??

I have had both the Honda shops here look at it, the current shock can be cut/drilled/hacked up to reduce the height but no guarantees it would be low enough. Plus the rear shock is already to firm for my liking so I am hoping the new shock will be better.

The monster 620 is a bit lower I think. The wife is about 5.6" so you may struggle on the Hornet. But the key is how long your legs are so its worth a go.
