Too true - octane rating makes sod all difference on mine, but Challenge or Gull...it certainly runs a bit smoother...(if thats possible in its current state of tune!)Originally Posted by Lou Girardin

my understanding is that unlike the 'big 4' AND challenge(Australian?), Gull is not piped through marsden pipeline. i think gull comes from singapore from a different source.
The 91 & 96 are the same fuel.......96 has extra octain boster shit in it there for it burns the less cleaner, so I dont reconmend it as the 91 is cleaner and better refined.Originally Posted by SPman
As for Challenge well thats just Caltex crap! It used to be a imported fuel and was a good quality but now is the same old shit made here.
I dont know anything about Gull as we dont have it or the Mobil 98 fuels down here.
Ave gas (100oct) is a fresh fuel not often found at the local garage were as race fuel is found at most but this fuel is stail ave gas from the airport. There is nothing wrong with it it's just that the avation industry have strict rules to go by, there for when the fuel reaches a certin age they move it out to the local servo's.
You shoud find that when running on 100oct (leaded the real oct boster) you get a smother and more powerfull mid range it is certinly noticable in the high compression Guzzi but not as much in the VTR.

My TL runs just fine on 96 ( any brand ) starts fine no problems , The only time I had problems with fuel was from Gull ! 96 octane made my old GSX run like a dog , I siphoned it out went down to shell and ALL was well again.Originally Posted by slob
When it comes to fuel the 98 octain from BP is about the best around and it even smells like petrol used to.
Dave
thanks a lot guys/guls...i actually found out my bike is tuned for 91...it's just some1 told me it might go faster if i put 96 (which I seriously doubted to begin with) as it burnes faster and smoother...
anywya I will stick to my good old 91...

Also, go to a new station. Old stations tend to have lots of water in their fuel due to leaks in their underground tanks.Originally Posted by 750Y
