Woah! Thats a pretty impressive right turn from the cager alright...
I bet the riders insurance company likes the video. Evidence of the rider doing no wrong, and the cage driver paying all the bills?

TRUE - one good reason for having a helmet cam!

Watching that is a good reminder why you should wear all the right gear.
You might be the worlds best rider but the roads are full of the worlds worst drivers and like with this vid there was nothing she could have done to avoid it.
There is nothing to fear but fear itself...and spiders.
Don't you all think that the car pulled a hand brake?
Same video as this http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/sh...ad.php?t=24683

She could have gone to the left, but I agree, it would have been pretty tough to anticipate where that car was going to end up.Originally Posted by tracyprier

Could be the result of a rage and a handbrake turn into the bike but fantasy is probly taking charge here.
Hear them saying take the helmet off, take the helmet off! Not a good idea if there is a neck injury, should leave it on till paramedics turn up.
Riding in the city lanes is like a steak going through a mincer!
You commuter's have my sympathy.Cheers John.
It looks to me like the car might have been going to change lanes and then saw the motorbike then panicked and hit the anchors.
Ouch!
No doubt about who's in the wrong though.
for fucks sake...

yep, double post. definately pretty crap though... that chick with the titties is quick to the rescue![]()
"Arguing on the internet is like competing in the special Olympics, even if you win, you're still retarded"
There could have been a chance, presuming you're paying attention and riding defensively, that the rider would identify the car on her left and note that they were picking up speed when they should have started to slow for the traffic ahead. Watch the video again and pretend you’re the rider; when do you see something not quite right with that car?
If you simply watch the video without thinking defensively you have about 1-2 seconds to react. If you watch it in a different frame of mind (like a defensive rider – does everyone know what that means?) then you can pick it up somewhat earlier that something is wrong with the situation before the car pulls, what looks like, an intentional hand-brake slide (but maybe they just freaked)!
I’m not saying I could have avoided the same incident here.
Also interesting to note is the white car in front of the red Civic. Watch carefully and it looks like the middle lane is speeding up, so is the white car in the left lane. In the last few moments it looks like the white car has slowed dramatically. Perhaps the driver of the Civic saw the traffic speeding up, was then distracted for a moment and then looked up to see the white car was right in front of him? Who knows…???
Hopefully this might be useful to some of the people just starting out on a motorcycle… try and anticipate potential accidents/hazards before they happen. If you are riding a lot in cities then thinking defensively is a valuable skill.
Commuting into/out of Wellington everyday I try to keep an eye on cages beside me and identify by there driving style whether they could be a threat to me. Coming up to traffic lights where there is a queue of traffic requires you to be extra diligent as there are usually several drivers who decide to change lanes (to get a car ahead) at the last minute, often without indicating.![]()

That's the thing isn't it, in situations like that you will sometimes reach a point where your ability runs out and their stupidity carries on.
And I want to know when some scientific-type is going to invent the personal force field generator

Yes I was me that posted this in the saftey forum, but the powers that be decided to remove the thread , * censorship* I have Emailed the moderator about this
and before anyone asks I did a search , I found nowt,
The thread just disappeared, I had written a wee note in much the same lines as groin, as I think this is a very good example of NOT riding defensively she had NO escape route ! and was accelarating into slowing traffic ,,,,

BTW
The Moderator hasnt replied , threads are still disappearing OR being Magically moved ( they never seem to appear in New theads , just straight into the forum from whence they originated , never to see the light of day)
And then this thread linked to the SAME PAGE appears AND SURVIVES the censorship process
I think in future I will keep my post to a simple one or two word reply save wasting my time
