well i have started something here, pointless really after riding a 1200 banditS and really enjoying it i am going to get one . i have always considered the bandit as a going to work bike and never really thought of it as a allround tourer/do everything bike, i was amazed how good it was, until yesterday i had only ever ridden the 600 bandit, 1200 is another bike alltogether and good for two up trips. cant believe i have overlooked this bike, now to find one.

buell was fantastic bike just cant justify the $20,000 pricetag and no second hand ones on the market yet, SVs is a v twin and awesome, just the riding position for me is a problem and i dont want to spend a $1000 modifying top yoke etc, the wife doesnt like seating position to much either. Bandit is neither one or the other and i know maybe no comparison to either but hey thats just the way it goes sometimes. been road and sport in hamilton, they have 3 all in metallic green, must have been a popular colour in 2003.

well the Bandit 12 is at least one bike I have riden, very easy to ride too. I jumped straight on and threw the owner on the back and away
She thought it was cool to be on the back of her bike too, found it a bit comfyer than she thought it might be.
Yeah you wont find any 2nd hand Ulysses for a couple of years yet as this is the first year of production, maybe just something to think about in a couple of years time when you get sick of the Bandit

Very interesting thread! The end result just shows how diverse the biking choices are now and just how good a large variety of bikes are at a variety of roles. No-one mentioned the GSX1400 which I would have thought was a complement to the Bandit range. HAs anyone ridden these to compare? How does it rate? Though it's a naked it seems to have bulk torque and excellent fuel consumption and a comfy ride position? I want to like the VTR but it is just too ugly for my taste and has poor economy. Piped ones sound the biz though! Got put off the SV-S due to the riding position but like the looks and the engine.

a friend of mine is disabled and i modify all his bikes to right hand gear change and thumb rear brake as he only has one leg, he had a gsx 1400 and i rode it before working on it, really nice bike but just a bit too heavy and clumsy feeling for me, very much a grunty bike and definatly bandit related, very wide feeling. i liked it but wouldnt want to own it if that makes sense.

Yep, have ridden a Bandit and own a GSX1400 after taking both for a good test run.

The Bandit is a good all rounder and I aint knocking it but I have read enough road reports on both and from my own tests to satisfy me that the 1400 is the bees knees.

The GSX1400 has 106bhp but don't let that think it's not capable. It's more horsies than the Bandit but the torque is where it's really at. It's arm wrenching stuff and all the power is where you need it for every day riding, hard or soft.

The 14 is turning out 110NM at 3,000 RPM rising to 126NM at 5500 RPM
where the Bandit is below 30NM at 3500RPM rising to 83NM at 4,000RPM with max torques arriving at 86NM.

The 14 is not a lot heavier, has fantastic fuel injection and a six speed box for when you really want to be a hoon.

It's handles extremely well, is stable at speed on corners, cruises effortlessly two up with luggage, is comfortable and just a great all rounder.

I have a video clip of a stock 1400 doing 0-100kmh is 2.57 seconds, so it's no slouch. The lack of fairing means you get about 250kmh out of it with your face on the tank but the good thing is, you know you are doing the speeds you are doing.

Experienced riders have no trouble doing wheelies as long as you ride the torque wave and you can do stoppies on them if you're game.

In short, I love the 14. The engines not under stress ever and it will last for ever.

All you need to do is tune the suspension away from factory settings and then you will find few bikes will stay with you through the twisties.

Oh, Shaun Giles also rides one when not racing, as his bike of preference.

Oh yeah, and while I'm making an appraisal of its 'goods', are SVs restriced in ny gears? (i.e. does a tre mod apply here?)

Well, reminded me of my first bike, an SRX250 single four stroke. The midrange stomp was kinda cool, didn't notice the injection which is also cool. Certainly a whole lot rougher than my zx6r, nowhere near as smooth. As far as performance goes, it was about the same as my bike, no big leap that's for sure. Was kinda cool to ride though... I'm crap and slow, and getting lazy and old, so I think it'll fit me quite well.

Going to trademe my zx6r, probably BSE this weekend also. If you're looking for one in not bad nick, feel free to contact me. Not asking huge dollars, I know what the bike shop will trade it for, so I know how much I need. If it doesn't sell, I'll trade it, no worries Apparently there's a couple of black ones, and a dark blue one coming, first in best dressed, just have to decide what colour I'd like

Sooo, any real difference in cans from a 2003-2006 model? i.e. If I bought K3 cans, would they fit, or do worse things to the curve than buying 06 ones? I'm thinking they'll be fine, but thoughts would be good.
