Here in Brisbane you have to ride like you are completely invisible, and probably spend most of your time looking in your mirrors and to the sides in heavy traffic. A few riders have been killed over here lately sitting stationary waiting to turn right into a street with traffic continuing past them. My husband commutes 60km each day and says some of the worst dickheads are motorcyclists, including one who regularly lane split and weaved (wove?!) when the traffic was moving 80 - 90km. The same guy who other half saw getting scraped off the road and shovelled into an ambulance one morning. And thanks to that guy no doubt plenty of car drivers think all motorcyclists should be shot. Just a point of note - people who slag off "cage drivers" as the enemy, presume you guys have cars as well? My own view is that there are dickheads and paragons of virtue on both sides, and I just keep an eye out for everyone being a moron, not just the four wheeled variety. Though I also think it should be compulsory to do your motorbike licence (even if you do it on a scoot) when you do your car licence, so you realise how vulnerable two wheels are in traffic. Some of you lot remind me a bit of Animal Farm (George Orwell, not the porno) - to twist things a bit, Two wheels good, four wheels bad. Ah well, rant over for the morning.

    Cagers not all bad!

I agree there are some really bad cagers out there but most of the time I find cagers pull over and let you through.

The number of times cagers tell you there are cops ahead is amazing too.
The trouble is the bad ones are more likely to be fatal for us when they do their stupid stuff! :spudwhat: Just my thoughts. John.

    Good rant - well said.

Trouble is, many bikers here don't drive cars, and far too many of them are unbelievably one-eyed when it comes to road courtesy. The attitude seems to be "I'll agressively invade your road space, but don't you dare do it to me".

I've seen bikers undertake on numerous occasions, often undertaking other bikes. Had it happen to me twice in recent months. However, I've never been undertaken by a car when on the bike. (Perhaps my wobbling all over the place precludes it?)

The trouble with aggressive and arrogant riding is that it causes cage drivers to resent all bikers.

Before Christmas, I had a major fright when driving back to Dunedin from Christchurch in my work cage. Rounding a fast sweeping right-hander, I was confronted by a group of 4 or 5 bikes, who were overtaking cars by riding down the centre line, regardless of on-coming traffic. As they came into view, they were well across the centre line, and I was clearly going to hit the lead rider. A quick flick of the steering wheel took me hard to the left, and the bikes swept by without harm.

It took me almost an hour before I stopped shaking, and I only hope the lead rider got as big a fright as me. The whole fucking bunch of them owe their lives to my quick reactions. If I had hit them, no doubt I'd be just another "Bastard Cager"?

A contensious issue, but I have seen several episodes of this "centre-line lane splitting", and it has always been HD riders doing it. Hmmmm....

I shouted to her to fuck off and she just kept on doing it, despite me being right next to her open window at the time. She kept trying to knock me off, swerving towards me as if I was in the wrong.
I just gave it a squirt and pushed in front of her.
When will they learn.......if I ever get knocked off I'll be jumping on the cunts bonnet with my size12 motorcycle boots
I know that I've only been riding a few days and stuff, and even with my 'L' plate on, I haven't had anyone try anything stupid yet... is the stupidness of cagers apparent in the first few days, or does it start after a week or two?

On a recent large ride of KBers' there was a few "Very Public" show-off acts done on a Gilera Scooter by some of the younger (between the ears) members. Saw a few wheelies, stoppies, skids and also an undertake (my 15 YO daughter displays better handling skills down our back paddock on a shitty old trailie IMHO So you need to sharpen up). Doesn't really draw the right kind of attention from joe bloggs public car driver though and helps foster an attitude out there that we are nothing but a bunch of hoons to be treated with appropriate contempt and disregard. People pick up on the bad acts way before they recognise the good, thats just human nature and our public profile isn't all that good. So next time you are treated with utter contempt and disregard on the road, nearly costing you life and limb, be aware that it MAYBE the result of an attitude hatched from previous actions by those of your own kind..
Keeping all that stuff for the quieter places and out of the bright lights of public scrutiny will help our image..

When a biker undertakes a cager dangerously, they are putting themselves in a situation where they could be killed or badly injured. When a cager undertakes a bike dangerouly, they are putting someone else in a situation where they could be killed or badly injured.
You have to be an idiot to put yourself in a situation like that, but you have to be a murderous bastard to put someone else in a situation like that. (especially if it's another biker!)

It's not too bad as long as there is room...

On the other hand when it's dark and wet and you are just about to crank over for a left hand bend only to find an undertaker in your space...

I am personally trying to avoid the services of an undertaker at the moment as I view that undertaking is only good business for the Undertakers..!

Heh....I was waiting at a round-about here in Wanganui, looking to my right waiting for an opening, as soon as one presented itself I moved into the round-about, Only to find the car that had ben qued behind behind me had driven up had entered at the same time, driven along side me, and was in the process of driving across my path, All this on a single lane round-about, damn car was about 2 inches away from me, and Im doin my best to not be hit or hit the round-about (which is raised a good foot in the air, hitting it would have caused the front wheel to deflect back into the car i was trying to avoid)

I ended up smacking the drivers window and unloading a torrent of abuse.

sweet.. I never manage to do anything to the cage in question.. I just raise my hand, as to say WTF..

When you get really fast at roundabouts, you can often undertake/overtake cages just as the roundabout starts.. - but only if they have indicated where they are going.. you don't want to be accelerating, and then they go where you don't expect..
