    Kiwi Biker Riders Club?

I've been a member of KB for ages now, over a year if I remember correctly. And during this time I have meet some very friendly and knowledgeable people. Of course from time to time people disagree and arguments happen, but at the end of the day we all love the same thing and we all enjoy talking to and being around people who enojy those same ideals.

KB has over 4013 (2155 Active) members as of right now...

KB also has it's own logo (including Shirts, patches, stickers...) and most bike shops and bikers know of "Kiwi Biker".

How come KB hasn't formed into an actual club yet?

I understand how much work would go into setting up KB as a club, finding a HQ and so forth.

Personally I would be very proud to join KB and pay for my membership...

Anyone else ever thought about this? What are your opinions?

I brought up in a previous thread that essetually we are now a "patch club" but I'd prefer if we still stayed a disorganised band of rabble. In that case the public and non-kb bikers will continue to see us as a disorganised band of rabble and we won't get in any trouble if we wear a patch to the wrong event. Also in the eyes of the public club = gang. My workmates are worried about my bronz tshirt that says "Bronz motorcycle club" on the back. Remember the Ulysses "gang" thread a while back? An "online message board about motorcycles" is a lot more friendly and a better explaination than a "motorcycle club"

I know that the KAOS logo has got me in trouble a few times when wearing bike leathers at pubs, the motorcycle shop, and even shopping malls. I'd rather avoid that kind of trouble again.

On the other hand, an organised club could get some shop benifits, buying power and political lobby powers. If we were a club and had the political lobby powers, who would organise that? Who would be in charge and where would we vote on our movements? It would be nice to travel north to an AGM and be put up for a few nights though: Cibby you got a spare spot?

But is the tradeoff for red tape worth it?

Someone (with far off / disliked neighbours) could easily build a shed in their yard, fly a KB flag and offer it as a "rally point" for rides and BBQs. This would avoid the red tape / missinterpretation aspect but still give a base of operations for all the fun. Actually, I think we've got one of those down here in the South island already...

That would be a nice stepping stone, if we got a few of those organised. How much for a bulk rate of mid sized KB flags?

I can understand the whole "gang" aspect of it... but I think as of now we're too dis-organised to even be a gang lol

*I thought you were doing it*

    *no, I thought you were*

haha... But if anyone is really keen on Flags, my aunt works for a printing company that does flags and other fabric/banner kinda things... might be able to get a good deal off her, if Spank Me is interested in looking at that.

It's a good idea...... and just as long as it stays an idea it will continue to be a good one as well...

Spank et al started a forum and people post here. No commitment required. There are moderators and other people that donate time to do thing that help keep it ticking along! Very cool! BUT (this is a great big BUT in 900 ft tall graite letters suitable for the set of Ben Hur or the Ten Commandments underlined in the blood of a thousand virgins)

It's a sort of benign dictatorship!

Once you form a club.... You need 'officials' and you need a purpose for the club (ie it needs to be about something more specific than 'motorcycles'.

Officials..... Gack! That assumes elections, meetings, agms etc etc. All of a sudden there is a time table and regular comitments.... (sigh) Auckland is the biggest membership base due to biggest population so it makes sense to hold meetings there making the rest of us feel we are hard done by! (it's kinda the way it always ends up)

Purpose? Why? Whats the club about or for? Racing? Touring? Classics? Dirt bikes? Hmm... Clubs of any size usually exist to provide events or run meeting etc for the members (like a Trials club).. Has anyone got time to run a rally?

Perhaps the stated purpose is to represent the interests of motorcyclists... OK, a political lobby group? Hmm.. That takes even MORE time!

So I dunno... Personally I can't see it working but if you want to give it a punt then why not, I vote for you as secretary....

After some general avoidance of work duties, I could only find this:
    http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/sh...2194#post52194

But I'm sure this has been discussed before and the general consensus is no, otherwise we would have joined one of the many existing clubs out there. Try the AMCC, they're a good bunch.

There are enough clubs out there that people can join if they want to. Why turn KB into one? I like the fact that KB is made up of a very diverse group of bikers from New Zealand and around the world who can come on here and talk about stuff that interests them. Why do we need to introduce buerocracy to it? The reality is that clubs are formed so people can ride together, do track days together and socialise together. We already do that.

I thought we kinda were already.. what makes coughing up money and meeting in one place any different to us paying for t-shirts, stickers, clothing, donating etc and calendars that we do already?

    Thumbs up

I reckon the idea has more than a few excellent merits.
Has been some serious talk between me and another from up these ways regarding a riding "club" for all...including honda's
No secret hand shakes etc but regular rides(which we do anyway) and a bit of fun on the side too. Obviously it would be done with some Northland styled "organisation" but a great way to get like minded peeps in the same place doing what we all love!
Would be a slight mission to get an NZ wide KB version happening but I'd support it for sure.

I prefer being part of the disorganised rabble. Besides, imagine getting into trouble with the mongrel mob gang, just cause of patch. Then we would have to rally as many KB'ers as we could to go down to their turf and start a patch war where we could then control their turf. (Long day so far)

Kiwi Biker never has been, nor never will be a club. KB is a resouce that any biker can use no matter what club, bussiness or bike type they use or are involved with.

nah tis fine as it is... what you could look to do on the side (not directly as part of KB) is to start a 'club' for a certain group - eg the "Gixxer Club" which recently started up. You could also consider the "fightclub" to be a club but thats open to anyone that has the balls to go out for a blat with them.

I am unclear as to what benefits people expect a "club" to provide that Kiwibiker doesn't already offer?
