Shit yeah i consider myself to be extremely lucky, i know its going to be thousands but if it is below 2 grand to get the car fixed then i will pay for it to be done (not fussed about the bike as i can get that done etc.) But if it is over 2 grand then i guess it will be insurance and be screwed for the next 10-15 years

I just talked to my dad and hes given me a number to get some parts of a mate of his..... therefore if i can get those the only major cost will be the painting

Arrow Wheels (I think they're in Auckland) are certified mag wheel repairers and I would expect their repair turn around time would be fairly quick. Sounds like you've got the parts sorted. What sort of car is it? If you're only painting a rear bumper with no blends on to the guards the paint shouldn't be too expensive. Get a couple of quotes to make sure your not getting ripped though.

TS, glad your okay, good lesson learnt re following distance, as the others have said try at all costs to pay for damage yourself, at your age this little incident will follow you for sometime to come, making future insurance very costly, that is if they even agree to insure, again its good you and your mate are okay, and cool you chose the option you did to minamize the risk to milk bottle or whatever his name is, hope it all works out okay.

sorry to hear about your ding TS. Certainly worth increasing your following distance. Its like a get out of jail free card really and cost you nothing on your ride.

I'm surprised at all the comments about insurance companies shafting you long term. is it really that bad guys? ie. I binned my gpx on my own inlate 2000 and claimed the $3500 on that thru insurance. the gsxr is worth 13,000 and I'm paying $890 in preimum plus $1500 excess with state. so am I getting overly shafted because of that claim? doesn't seem to bad to me compared to guys I know with turbo cars (although the excess blows goats- could be reduced to $750 in case of theft if I alarmed it)

Thanks for all the tips and offers, i really appreciate it, you are all a great bunch of guys and girls well i did some adding, and i worked out the costs, it was going to cost about $1500-2000 just for the primera to get fixed (turns out the rear door was scratched as well ) then there was my bike.... the fairing, radiator, rear set and straightening the forks wasnt going to be cheap either...... consequence is i have to go through the insurance.....

Hopefully it will the same will happen with me as CK.... reasonable premiums at $890 (i mean it costs almost $2000 for my premium on mitsi galant.... and its only worth $2500 !!!!!!!!!!!!)

Also i want my bike ready for puke ive almost finished painting my racing fairings (which i had taken off 2 days before the crash )

Painting is the killer for cars as they have to paint the whole panel to blend the paint. They would have had to have painted nearly the whole side of the car. You will be surprised what a little amount of damage can add up too. I, by the sounds of it, had similar damage to my work car and this was $1600+GST to repair....

With your forks - just loosen the triple clamps - if they are only slightly bent - they should ping back in to shape once you loosen off the bolts - then just tighten them up.

You are likely to get a nice premium increase coupled with the possibility of an increase excess......but at least you aren't trying out your medical insurance or ACC instead.

Gotta watch those roads up there, 2-smoker. Death'n'Taxes and I went to Piha today as well. The road is better than it used to be (surface-wise) but there are still tricks for young players and those that don't know the road too well. We kept it pretty slow through most of it, and still had to negotiate our way through the traffic. It's nice and twisty and close to home, but as you now know there's just too much traffic to risk cutting that centreline (which is dangerous anyway)...

Cheers yep i like scencic road for its range of corners, that road is great and im starting to know it quite well, but this unfortunatly happened on one of the many side roads out there and as you said didnt know the road at all so got caught out completely ....

Hey guys, and sorry to hear about all this TS, but sounds like your on the right track and being helped well. Gotta say i love the roads out here but Scenic Drive itself is a shitter alot of the time because of it never seeing the daylight under the tree it gets mossy crap all over it even where you dont notice it. Anyway good luck TS and i hope it all turns out okay, i can say that There really is a lesson to be learnt on following distance, PuTMaN often acuses me of nearly making him crash because "you bloody hit the brakes halfway thru a corner!" well im always honest and tell him if it nearly caused an accident he shouldnt be following so damn close! and that i can brake whereever i like whenever i like! whatever feels comfortable. (not that braking mid corner does, but if i have gone too fast into a corner and know i can get away with a quick stab on the brakes then carry on i will! beats crashing!)

Wasnt meant to be criticism - just observations.....I made, and I guess many have, the exact same mistakes. I still make them today....

Following the brakes lights is as easy to do in the car as it is on a bike....we all get guilty of it - and as for following to close...well - I have trouble counting to two at the best of times - let alone on a bike.

Too true, ask Jimbo750 the dangers of target fixating on the back of the bike in front.
