    Funny ticking noise

    Hi everyone,

On the FXR I am noticing a strange ticking/pinging sort of noise comming from the engine. Its not constant, and seems only to happen when slowing down, or sometimes sitting at idle. Also, I can usually only hear it after the bike is fully warmed. Its quite noticeable over the usual engine noise.

Is this a problem? The oil was changed recently, and everything else seems fine. Kinda hard to explain, possibly able to get an audio clip of it.

    Cheers,

    Stefan

It's a bomb. Head for the hills......
Seriously - ticking from an engine is very common after running a while when you switch off. Tis cooling metal contracting. Do I read right, that this is happening under warmup/normal riding? If so, I'm stumped.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

Would have to have a listen to it to really give an accurate answer.

Hmm, noises are hard to describe in words. Its when the engine is running only. I thought it may be the valves, but it doesnt happen all the time, which is unusual.

Ill have a good listen to it tomorrow, and see what it tells me...

    Cheers

I used to have a loud ticking noise coming from my old Audi. T'was the hydraulic lifters (the things that pump the oil around the engine). They were a bit clogged, it wasn't anything to concern myself about short term however.

(then the transmission blew up creating a large paperweight)
