I don't know the road so may need enlightening here. But if it's anything like some of the roads around here, they lower the limit, all the bikers/wannabe racers cry at the spilt milk, and keep riding it at the same speed. Which was far in excess of the 100k limit anyway. So now the limit is 80k, guess they're STILL speeding. So what's new?

Might suck in a car though, where tax evasion is not really a viable option.

That goes for all their lookalike wannabies in local government too! John. (F*ckin socialists, I hate them)
There is no way that this government can be called socialist. In fact they are the very opposite. The recent ammendments to the Land Transport Act bear this out. Labour have Given the Director of LTNZ carte blance to change and alter posted speed zones. There are going to be many rural roads that will have the 100 k limit changed to 80. This is not the Governments doing. What the Government has done, and this is in line with Labours Rodgernomic's philosophy, which is the antithesis of socilism.
Part 14 of the Land Transport Act 1998

185 Authority to be Crown Entity

    Repealed

The Authority has been give a free hand to reach the Governments Road Safety Stratgy 2010. This document outlines the stratgeys in which the stated targets of no more that 300 fatlities and 4500 road injuries by 2010 are to be acheived. The link below gives some information. Just not too sure how up to date it is

Further to the 'privatisation' of our highways.

Not many people are aware that provisions are now in place for road tolls.

This is from the Land Transport Management Act 2003

    http://www.legislation.govt.nz/libra...a2003-118/s.46

46.Authority to establish road tolling scheme—

(1)The Governor-General may, by Order in Council made on the recommendation of the Minister, establish a road tolling scheme to provide funds that may be applied by or on behalf of a public road controlling authority for the purposes of—

(a)1 or more of the following activities, namely, the planning, design, supervision, construction, maintenance, or operation of a new road; and

(b)meeting any conditions or requirements set out in the order.

(2)An order under subsection (1) must—

(a)describe (so far as is practicable)—

(i)the new road, or part of it, in respect of which the toll revenue may be applied; and

(ii)the road or roads that may be tolled (being the new road and, if the order so provides, a road that meets the requirements of section 48(2)), or the part or parts of those roads that may be tolled; and

(b)set out any conditions that must be met to the satisfaction of the Minister, being—

(i)any conditions that must be met before the public road controlling authority or toll operator may begin tolling; and

(ii)any other conditions that apply; and

(c)set out a process by which the Minister will confirm whether he or she is satisfied that the relevant conditions to be met before tolling may begin have been met.

(3)An order made under subsection (1) may (without limitation)—

(a)set tolls, or empower the public road controlling authority or toll operator to set tolls within the maximum limit, or according to the method, set out in the order:

(b)provide for different levels of tolls to be levied in respect of different classes of person or motor vehicles, different times or days, different directions of travel, or different methods of payment, or to be levied on any other differential basis:

(c)grant exemptions from the obligation to pay tolls under the scheme (whether on a basis referred to in paragraph (b) or on any other basis specified in the order), and empower the public road controlling authority or toll operator to grant exemptions (which power is subject to any limitations set out in the order):

(d)state how the tolls are to be collected:

(e)specify any information that the toll operator or the public road controlling authority is required to provide to the Minister or any other specified person or organisation:

(f)authorise the enforcement authority to have access to law enforcement information held by a holder agency under the Privacy Act 1993, and set out terms and conditions governing that access:

(g)require the public road controlling authority to prepare a demand management plan in accordance with the order:

(h)specify civil penalties for breach of conditions referred to in subsection (2)(b)(ii), and establish a procedure for resolving disputes about the application of those penalties:

(i)require notice of the Minister's confirmation of the matters referred to in subsection (2)(c) to be published in the manner set out in the order.

(4)An order made under subsection (1) is a regulation for the purposes of the Regulations (Disallowance) Act 1989 and the Acts and Regulations Publication Act 1989.

(5)Before recommending that an order made under subsection (1) be amended or revoked, the Minister must consult the relevant public road controlling authority about his or her proposal.

(6)This section does not limit any other Act that provides for tolls to be levied or collected in respect of any road.

Labour learnt from mistakes with Rodgernomics. They talked about it too much and people became informed. Now this government does the very opposite they stay silent, and to such an extent that many still believe that Labour stands for socialism. Nothing could be further from the truth. This government has no concerns about the welfare of its citizens. It sees stats, economic indicators, and other dubious measerments as markers of success.

    Really!

    Socialism n.

    1) A political and economic theory which advocates that the community as a whole should own and control the means of production, distribution and exchange.

2)Policy or practice based on this theory!

IE: All of our current political Parties offering themselves for office in this country, with the exception perhaps, of the "Libertarianz".

This country is full of bloody socialists! All trying to rule our lives in their own interest!

Freedom of the individual and promotion of personal responsibility are not on their agenda.

They just keep on making new blanket rules for everyone even though they cant even "Police" the old ones effectively.

Soon they will choke the roads entirely with their stupid rules just to satisfy their will to control everything, most of all "US"!

Socialists are eroding our freedom more and more, every minute of the day! And not just on the roads! :slap: (Rant over) John.

Just to play devils advocate for a moment...many of the roads where the speed limit may be decreased to 80kph were built/sealed/aligned when the speed limit was 80 anyway. Driving sure hasn't improved since then even if the cars have, what's really going to change anyway?

Re: the road in question, it's a pretty rare day that I find a cage driving at more than 90kph on it anyway - 70kph seems to be the maximum speed for most of the punters...

I can't think of a major party advocating this.
However, the assumption of control over every aspect of our lives otherwise smacks of a nanny state fascism.
    Speed doesn't kill people.
    Stupidity kills people.

Because, as someone pointed out, 120ks is about right for all of those lovely 55k bends. Plus a few ks accelerating out of the corner, as you do, and that ticket is going to be painful.

Because that particular road is an awesome stretch of motorcycling paradise that is extremely enjoyable to ride a little faster, and a number of us do ride it regularly. I probably wouldn't care if it wasn't right in my back yard and the road I often ride home on from a hard day at work. Also because if they make it 80kms any one of us could now lose our licence under the new law if caught doing 121kms! :spudwhat:
