    radar detectors and supermarket doors

just read on radardirect that a way to test if your detector works is to ride near the door and it should set it off...

Q How can I be sure my radar detector is operating properly?
A Find a supermarket with an automatic door opener and drive toward it with your detector on. The automatic door opener should make your radar detector alert.

    blabla

anyway, i work in a supermarket so at what distance will it set it off? is there a way to set them to ignore shit like that? sorry if this has been answered before but if so please redirect me
    thanks

    That's the laser.
Yes you can turn it off, but you'll get pinged by laser hand helds.

the more sensitive detectors will go off in the supermarket car parks, but that might also be the laser scanner.. I'm not too sure.

Supermarket doors and the like work on X or K bands. The distance at which your detector will pick them up will depend on how sensitive your detector is and on the alignment of the automatic door unit. I have found that if my radar detector is pointing right at the door that I may pick some of them up at almost 1 km, yet others ae down to 200 m away.

You will soon go mad if you leave these bands enabled, so as soon as you are sure that your detector is working then disable both X and K bands.

Ahhhh, no dude.... laser is light radar is radio waves, the only way you will get a false Laser is with the sun refelecting through the screen of the bike and being disorted.

I disable all bands expect KA & laser (not that laser means any thing other than 'fuk been done') there is only one car putting about that still uses K and as for X... they dont exist apart from auto doors

I find the best test is to ride past a cop at legal speed limits and see what happens.

Dangerous and Jantar are correct - doors only work on X band. As there are no police frontline radars which work on this band any more, X band isn't a lot of help and as the guys said, you can filter out X and K bands on good detectors, leaving just Ka (microwave) and laser bands.

There are door sensors working on K band. Some neon signs and LED tail lights trigger laser. I've turned X and K off, now I only get very few falses on Ka and Laser.

Only get false KA from cheap arse detectors (turn SWS of and no false KA from tractors) and only get false laser from the sun deflecting through screen.
