Sounds like there is one in CHCH you could get keys for and permission from the registered owner to pick it up.....

Get it checked tomorrow on 0800 108 809 in the arvo. They'll tell ya coz the data gets inputted at the counter when the change of ownership papers are paid for. (straight from HER mouth - she's grumpy tonight so I'm not going to push it.)

    and the plot thickens
i phoned him yesterday to find out whats going on, apparently he sold it a month ago, and the new owner hasn't changed it over either, so i don't know why he was stuffing me round saying he was going to change it to his name, arrrgh, so what do i do now, i'm gonna ring ltsa and calmly (not like last time, which got a bit abusive) ask them for some advice, am i going to be able to dereg this bike without the plates, as i really don't want to end up getting someone elses fines

you should be able to derego it without the plate just say the plate got damaged or fell down the road or some crpa so you don't have it....

if that doesn't work....pay 8.80 and get a new plate and say old one was lost.....then you don;t have to hand in whats left say you lost it somewhere and dunno where it went get the new plate...then derego it....

Give the guy like 2 days to sort it and then dereg it. Hardline him and carry through. It aint your deal to worry about.

This is what Auckland has taught me, oh what have I become.

I had thiks prob when I sold a car last year, and the new owner is liable for fines for not changing the rego, so if the paperwork has been done, and you've posted off your bit, you are not in any trouble. The law is stupid, and should demand the disposer complete all paperwork, so that you know its done. The current law is not overly well thought out imo.

No the lesson is to ensure you have a copy of all the paperwork required to change rego over to new owner on hand when you sell the bike, get the buyer to fill it out there and then and if is NZPost open hours go down and change it there and then, take the new owner with you. It costs what $25-$30 for piece of mind thats gotta be cheaper than an outstanding bill for rego or speed camera fine.
Its not the destination that is important its the journey.

That is why the give you a form to fill out saying your selling the bike to such and such a person. Then you post that away and you dont take the fall for any fines the new owner gets befor he puts the bike under his name

yeah but the thing is i DID have one of those forms, only thing is when i got him to fill it out, because he was going back to chch, and we were sort of rushing round, getting the bike on the trailer, doing paperwork etc. i didn't notice he'd actually filled out the part that i was supposed to, the notice of seller disposing of vehicle, so thats what screwed the whole thing up

$25??!!?? It costs about $9 doesn't it and the buyer's supposed to pay that's why the sellers form is a freepost one?
