It's gone to the great highway in the sky ...
And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.

Ive never had my cage licence and wrote my mates car of the one and only time I ever did drive on the road (I was 15 and stupid) But ever since riding a bike in Wgtn Ive decided that I might actually go and get my (cage) licence cause its just too dangerous riding 365 days a year here. Did someone say irony?...

Even with the wind, I'd still rather be on my bike than in a car. I find driving boring and frustrating now

I too was scared of the wind and getting blown around but i decided one day to push it and hit the motorway and ducked behind the faring and turned on the gas. I found it went into its own bubble and forgot about the wind. Of course there are moments where gusts come but you can see them and know where they are going to hit and that is where you slow to where you know you can control them. Eg around building, trucks the bottem of the gorge interchange and that grenada north corner. the cross wind between pori and plim is bad but consistent.

I sail as well and you read the water and how it moves. that theory works on the road just there is less to read. (trees etc.)

another way to look at it is we all know how water flows around objects and down around rocks same with the wind. look at the shapes of the hills around you and how it is going to go past!

The trick with that wind was finding the right zone between too slow and too fast. I noticed when I was following the slower people it was really scary, you got blown around quite a bit, and I spent a lot of time thinking I wasn't far off falling over. But when the pace was a little quicker it was fine, no problems aside from the odd extreme gust. Then when the pace really got hot... well back to square one - front ends getting light under power then getting hit by a wind gust, landing sideways, bike trying to lie down... oh, what a marvellous ride it was on the way back.

Gotta say, the "slow" people were still pretty good, it wasn't nearly as slow as I was expecting. And dreamer seems to be unexpectedly quick... Just need some tuition from cowpoos on how to get your knee down, aye?!

What I was most impressed with was the lack of brake-use all the way down the Welly side of the Takas...in all that scary wind and darkness. V-cool.

Not to mention HER losing ME down River Road on the way home. How the hell does a learner on a 250 lose Madboy on the motorway?
