[QUOTE=onearmedbandit]. There is a private road not far from here that we use for wheelies etc and the odd speed run, but going fast in a straight line bores me, give me corners any day.

Hay OAB, Were r these private roads. love 2 have a play someday

Being the owner of the fastest, most powerful litre bike in the jap range, I can tell you that it seems a bit over the top when you first own one. But when you get used to it you find that they're very ridable in everyday situations and having all that power (in my case a ridiculous amount) on tap is a shit load of fun, particulary on the open road and especially 1st, 2nd & 3rd. Oh yes, a radar detector is a must and you've gotta have a good eye for when it's safe to let her rip.

hows a radar detector going to help you at 200+?

it will start beeping. in the time it takes you to reach for the brake, you're already passing the parked cop car before even slowing down. I guess in that situation you probably wouldnt slow down?

which is ridiculous in its self.

do those radar detectors have an ear piece so you can hear them? or are you just meant to be paying attention to a flashing light on the dash at 200?
    gone.

Mate if you're doing 200+ and you're pinged, the break lever is the last thing you wanna reach for. In this case the radar detector ~250 grams makes an excellent missile and if you score a direct hit it buys you some time.

A HARD system is a wireless light in your helmet which goes off. A good radar doesn't give you a licenses to speed, it just evens up the odds a bit.

I'm not giving up that easy. The current output of my Honda is 240. If you don't believe me, have a look for yourself.

    And you doubted me.

yeah, i'm not suggesting speed. just wondering how to use the bike to its fullest without breaking the law... too much.

i guess the answer is going around corners. but going in a straight line is so much easier! :slap:

I pin the throttle exiting round-a-bouts, traffic lights, straight bits, exiting corners, around corners, up hills, down hills, the footpath outside my house going onto the road.

Pretty much anywhere. I think the only situation I have not pinned the throttle is my backyard.

    Oh, and gravel or dirt.

    But then, I have a 400.

Well, the latest R1's actually do 174kmh in first!!

Those I know who own them, say they could never safely use the full potential on the road, but ideal for track use and then it depends on the track, if it's a fast or slow track.

Most the new thou's are now limited to 300kmh (186mph) but when you can do those figures in third or fourth, you know the bike can be a lot quicker than that.

There's straights around Auckland, (South out my way) that are on back roads and generally safe to top your bike out on but I wouldn't recommend
    it due to several factors:
    1. Farmers and all the add on's that go with them, like dogs, cows, tractors, cow shit etc,
    2. The state of the roads are always changing because of the above and a slight ripple can become a launching platform at those speeds.
    3. Dumb birds, like Pukekos that hear you coming and for some reason believe they are safer flying out from cover directly into your path. One of these will easily take you off your bike at anything above 180kmh.
    4. Wind sheer between hedges or shelter belts. Riders and bikes don't like disappearing into roadside ditches and drains at 300kmh.

Having said all that. I took my 14 up to 250kmh on one of these said straights several times. That was fun and gave the neck muscles a real good work out.

The old saying is true though. If you have that sort of power between your legs, you're gonna use it. The question is when?
