Six speed. Having ridden one on the road, there's not a lot of point of revving them past 7-8,000rpm in most riding conditions. They rev to 14,000rpm redline and sound magnificent over 7,000rpm.

OK, track days and club racing are the obvious choices....
However, if that is not an option, a quiet rural road, ride it slowly 1st to check it for dangers, turn around and cut loose!

Main reason for the tall gearing in most morden litre bikes is it does tame em down a fair bit, best thing to do is drop a tooth from stock, that sorts most of em out.
I'm divded on the whole radar issue too, some people swear by em, me i can't see the point in them, each to there own i guess.

I hate riding in the city. It sucks arse. I have a couple of roads that I know well, which let me push the bike relatively hard and in relative safety (enough vision to spare). To really give 'em heaps though, the track is the only place.

but i think you've answered my question. i think i read somewhere that you dont need more than 100hp in a road bike and i think tend to agree.

my old 400 was almost more fun because i COULD ring it out.
Your dilemma is one of the main reasons I ordered an HD and not a sportsbike capable of twice the speed for half the price. I can still fang and hang the thing but because it doesn't have the rocket ship speeds and spectacular handling of a race bred bike I can do it all at something vaguely resembling the speed limit.

I thought I was the only one who thought like that, I like the Sporty 'cause I CAN wring it out a fair bit.
The F100 on the other hand is o.t.t. when it comes to wringing it out, almost not as much fun. (ALMOST)

the reason I own an Enfield is that I wouldnt be here to type this message, In order for you to receive this message ..IF I did own a 1000 cc sports bike, you would have to be using someone like Doris Stokes, or other pots that were cracked.
The Enfield rattles along at a max of 125 ( ish cos the speedo has been Eating the yellow snow... right there where the Huskys go and is prancing all over the place ..)
Officer I was doing between 80 and 140 KM/hr is actually a valid Argument on an Enfield ....

I remember back in the day when the VFR400 came out there was a factory kit that you could purchase ( we fitted one to some geezer who raced at the Isle of Man, it made the bugger rev , NOW that power you could use ...

Here in Japan the Motorway speeds are ummm well I dont actually know , I see the signs for 80 kph , but most people sit between 100 and 140 and yes they wring out the sports bikes ... My mate going to work every day sits around 180 on the blackbird

I am quite happy toddling around at 100 , fast enough for me .....

keDon't ride a 1000 , but Wellingtons not too bad. Wairapapa Motorcyle Club runs a few closed road events , Don't have to worry about walking home through loss of licence.

I'm hoping to start doing track days this year , Hopefully will be able to get to one of Frosty's trackdays to get started. I'd be a hipocrite if I say I'd didn't give it a nudge now and then , but I use the close road club days for the maxing stuff. I hope to do the hill climb next year , looks like I' not back in time for this year. http://www.cdd.co.nz/hillclimb.htm

Your right about smaller CC bikes , Use to enjoy using 2 strokes in thrash manner , These days in "PC" NZ you'd still lose your license on a small bike.
I see italy put it's speed limit up to 150kmh , they did this for the reason that faster drivers are more awhere

I ride a 225cc bike on the road these days, and it's got far too much power for me to exract it's full potential, even on sealed roads.A bike 5 times the capacity and power?? Why?
