The K5 Gixxer recently won the 0-100mph-0 race against the cars in Europe. Had to slightly over-rev to do it in 1st gear only. Think it was all over in about 10.4sec.! These are seriously fast bikes and I heard the R1 was peaking at 164kph in first at redline. Owners of these bikes, (if they are honest and not bragging outrageously) should be able to confirm these figures. I am often told it's time to upgrade the old F to something bigger, but honestly, when you can accelerate up the Viaduct in fifth from 100 to 180 without breaking a sweat where do you use the extra? I enjoy being able to happily pootle along at the speed limit or thereabouts but have considerable power avilable should I want to pass a row of slower traffic in short order. I dont worry about speed cameras but there are places in remote rural areas where it is safe to stretch the legs a bit. Everything that's been said about public roads and the risks are well noted. Came across a tractor turning right across the road on a corner the other week. HAd I been cranking along instead of being around the legal limit, it could have been interesting! The track is really the only place to use all the power of a modern bike, even mine!

In stock form the thous aren't that powerful, you can give 'em shit a lot of the time. Like lb sez if you got 174k in first you need to look at gearing, I think you'll find it makes it a lot more fun.....

Well my first bike was the ZXR400R and i think because it was the R model it had taller gearing. it was perfect. use to do 110 in first gear, which was fantastic for getting on motorway onramps. You could wind it all the way up to 10k where it would start to scream and hold it to just past 14 and you'd be at the end of the on ramp and doing 110 and that was perfect.

but this new bike, tis too quick. first is over and done with in a heart beat, i'm already doing 110 and only half way down the onramp. you pinch 2nd and give it another blat and its all over for you if a cop sees you.

i guess i'm not complaining about it. its great to have the power. especially if you need it in a tight situation.

i guess i will just have to wait till i am better at going around corners and take it to a track day. its meant to be a pretty good bike for going around corners. hopefully i will be able to do it justice one day!

You're cheating yourself if you have any kind of sportsbike and you don't at least try a trackday. I reckon they are more fun than you can ever have on the road and you can use full power quite a bit

I don't use full power much on the road, occasionally I'll keep it pinned in 2nd till redline on a motorway on ramp just for a giggle. IMO litre bikes are cool because they still handle great but they have heaps more grunt than smaller sports bikes so you don't have to change gears as much. Makes for a more relaxed ride when you aren't caning it.
I sped past a hiway patrol the other day and he didn't even chase me, reckon he knew he was beaten. If you know the roads and you can't out run a Holden, your bike licence should be revoked

I redline the crap out of my bike all the time even going to the dairy, but its a slow Honda so I'm never going very fast.

Yeah I don't think I'd trust myself with a four cylinder thou. The VTR's just enough for me to be able to wring its neck happily. Maybe another 10HP would be nice. Straight line speeds some peoples buzz I can get that, I like the corners (even if she is a bit wayward in them....) Just choose your roads to suit your riding. Depends how much you need your licence, personally I've never been over 220KPH on the road, things happen pretty quickly, see how far it takes you to stop from that speed.

The Honda rider was traveling at such a "very high speed", his reaction time
was not sufficient enough to avoid this accident.

Swedish Police estimate a speed of ~250 KM/h (155mph) before the bike hit the slow moving car side-on at an intersection. At that speed, they predicted
that the rider's reaction time (once the vehicle came into view) wasn't
sufficient enough for him to even apply the brakes. The car had two
passengers and the bike rider was found INSIDE the car with them. The
Volkswagen actually flipped over from the force of impact and landed 10
feet from where the collision took place.

All three involved (two in car and rider) were killed instantly. This
graphic demonstration was placed at the Stockholm Motorcycle Fair by the
Swedish Police and Road Safety Department. The sign above the display
also noted that the rider had only recently obtained his license.

At 250 KM (155 mph) the operator is traveling at 227 feet per second. With normal reaction time to SEE-DECIDE-REACT of 1.6 seconds the above operator would have traveled over 363 feet while making a decision on what
actions to take. In this incident the Swedish police indicate that no actions were taken.
