Main reason for the tall gearing in most morden litre bikes is it does tame em down a fair bit...

I think it's also got a lot to do with 0-100mph times for the old showroom dragrace. If there's no gear change in there, the 0-100mph is gonna be faster. I think that's why all the new thous do just over 100mph in first.

A lot of guys use them to their full potential on trackdays too, sometimes riding something bigger and more intimidating does make you a better rider. Your first ride on a small bike feels pretty powerfull and almost intimidating, if after upgrading you went back to it now it would probably feel like a moped. Would love to try one, be too hard to go back once you've had that taste though......

Two up, tent and all the gear for a week, about 200 gazzilion kg of C.Bs bits'n'bobs, overtaking a B train on a long up-hill and you'll see WHY!!!

Gremlin used to have some favourite roads around here as well (Sandstone road mr G?) but I have forbidden him to ride them anymore as his bike is a yukky colour...

And there is no sandstone road, I know nothing of it, and any cars in the vicinity are obviously using another road

but this new bike, tis too quick. first is over and done with in a heart beat, i'm already doing 110 and only half way down the onramp. you pinch 2nd and give it another blat and its all over for you if a cop sees you.

err... yah, thats about all you get to do around town... but tis fun... basically full power until you reach the speed limit, then jump up a few gears...

Just remember (this might help you slow down too ) that the bike will swallow fuel riding it hard around town, not to mention the tyre use as well. If you're a poor student like me, then that helps slow you down a bit

Phew! After reading all that I had almost forgotten what the original question was! Where do you R1's and Gixxers use the power? Well I don't have either of those but I can tell ya this, I love the feel of powering out of a corner on the Buell plus she gets a fair amount of 'ringing out' chasing my mate who IS on a gixxer. My top speed is only a measly 220 (maybe 230/240 downhill with a tail wind) but big deal, I enjoy the power (read: awesome torque!) that my bike has down low and mid-range. Thought about a Power Commander for it at one point so i could get some extra top end but that would have meant low-mid compromise and thats where the FUN is as far as I am concerned. It comes down to how ya ride and what ya want out of ya bike!

On the road... I dont use all the power anymore... You either do stupid speeds, or wheelies...

I hate riding my GSX-R in town, because you have to slip the clutch until at least 20-30kmh... and you dont get out of 3rd.

Now I only use the power to pass cars... I do all the other stuff on the track only...

I prefer the Takapuna Police station, cos its just around the corner from the North Shore Hospital, the audience there always seem speechless (It might be the tubes hanging out of the throat?)

You have got to be taking the piss...that's one of two places I've had a speeding ticket in my life...it's always full of cops...even at dark. But then ofcourse it is, it's one of the safest bits of road around.
