9 years more at Western Springs?

I was told yesterday by someone who used to be on the Speedway commitee, who was speaking to a couple of other bigwigs there - that Bill Buckely has taken on managment of Western Springs on a 3+3+3 contract. He walked away from it last season and was managing some South Island tracks and Tauranga I think, maybe Rosebank too.For him to take it on for 9 years he must be pretty confident of it being there for him to do the job....although he's not renouned for stickability.Maybe good news for the Speedway.

    Let's hope so.

Why don't we get up a KB ride out to the speedway one night? And take our flag !

I served my apprenticeship around the corner, where McDonalds Machinery is,back in 1970 most of the area was still in paddocks.

It's hard to imagine Bill Buckley being a successful businessman,he was a loose cannon in his younger days.He rode a Vincent sidecar at the Springs, and rode a Vincent on the road too...seen him come over the hill at Puke on it and take to the grass...shee it! I know a guy who says he got into bikes because he lived in the same street as Bill, watching him come home from work on the Vincent was the highlight of his day.

Yeah did you ever see the BSL500 he had designed and built?

Should see him when he comes into our workplace, he is in dirty overalls and covered in grease n crap. You would never imagine he is such a wealthy successful person from his appearance.

Never judge a book by its cover - very true indeed.

What happened to those 2 smokers he built a while back with the aim of eventually going GP racing.

They changed the rules on him and turned it into MotoGP - good by 2 strokes.

They ran both BSL 500's at Puke a couple of years ago.....interesting, but with the development work that has to go into those things, they were always behind the 8 ball.
    Still an impressive effort though.
