You got it. The XR200RE with RFVC and twin carbs came out in 1984 - different frame, 17'' rear wheel when replacing the XR200RD of 1983. The motors were crap and had too many failures so they returned to the 2 valve engine but stayed with the new frame. Personally the D fitted me better I liked the old frame with full 18" rear wheel and when standing on the pegs the D was narrower, whereas the later ones I found the bloody frame tube dug into my ankles even through my boots. Also the D had a cable operated rear brake (still all drum then) which didn't lock up or chatter when braking on bumps. Unfortunately the CRF230 still has that dumbass rod operated drum brake on the rear.Originally Posted by NordieBoy
Once the XR200's stopped being road legal they also lowered the seat height and put shorter front forks in them - can't rememebr the exact year that happened but was early to mid 90's so they weren't as dirt capable then. The CRF doesn't look like its got very long forks either but I can't comment as I haven't ridden one, but again I still say the XR200RD of 1983 was the best one they built and the CRF would have to be pretty good to beat one of those.
Cheers
