I live at the end of a short no exit street,and at the moment a Cop car is in the drive next door....and so is a bike! An early twinshock multi.I'd say the guy was doing a runner,but there was nowhere to go - done! The Cop car has just left,and the bike is still there.So.....is the rider in custody and gone? The bike picked up later.....or is the guy on the run and needing transport??? I need a crap and a bath....and an early night.I think I'll move the Pajero up in front of my garage door.....I was just thinking tonight that the neighbourhood seemed a bit quiet!

[edit] Cops gone 5 mins and the bikes starts up and is gone,I was outside shifting the Pajero....so he was hiding!

From my previous Pajero experiences I would start the thing so that it is nicely warmed up for him and cross my fingers that he would take it and burn it out somewhere.

I'm not worried about my Pajero! - I don't want him at my bikes! Oh well,he can't of been a local otherwise he wouldn't of come down a dead end - and if he was local he would know he could cut through the park no worries.Probably too scared to ride on the grass.

Yeah I realise that, if you warmed the Pajero up for him it would have been like a sacrificial thing to protect your bikes!

Can't have been anything too serious otherwise the only way the bike would move again would be if it was pushed.....

I might of been closer to the action than I thought.The area was very quiet last night,next door weren't even arguing and their kids screaming,we had no TV or music going.I saw the security light on the garage go on and thought my wife may be coming home,so told the boys to get into bed (oops) But it wasn't her,so went out onto the back porch for a look,the light is sensitive and cats often set it off.When I went back inside the boys came to tell me a cop car was outside their bedroom window.The wife came home when the Police were still their,and while she went out the front door to water some plants I came out to shift the Pajero - when the bike took off.

The security light would only come on if someone came up the drive,and my back yard is secure with high fences...if I had of gone for a wander I may have flushed a cornered rat.But it's possible he may have been by the Pajero,even under it as it was by some undergrowth and it was very dark out there.He was close by while the Cops checked out the bike,but they didn't check out the area,just took the details and left.

I'd say the rider was from out of area and was speeding up the ''main'' road,probably passed a cop and did a runner when he saw it light up - ''I'll lose them in the back streets'' is not a good plan if you don't know the area.He must of been pushing a bit as he went up the neighbours drive before he could stop as the road ran out...then just jumped off and ran...duh.The park is large but open,and naughty locals even drive their cars across to get to other streets...if he knew the area he could of done a quick turn and shot off across the park.And when he finally went he started to go further into suburbia,but then stopped and went out onto the main road again..

The moral of the story is - don't do a runner on roads you don't know,it's kinda embarrassing! The registered owner may be getting a visit soon.

Yep, just what I was thinking. Better put in a stolen bike complaint. I'm surprised Ya didn't "hide" the bike under ya Pajero for him, Motu

If it was a failing to stop (pursuit) they would have impounded the bike for seven days under section 123(1)(b) LTA 1998. It was probably just a case of the rider knowing that the cops were going to stop him so he tried to hide before the disco lights came on.

Have we actually got a "duty of disclosure" rule here, like they now have in Oz?. The registered owner is legally obliged to tell the police who was riding the vehicle and, if he doesnt, prevaricates or whatever, he wears the full set of charges?
