SOME cyclists run red lights.... i personally dont...and I get as fucked off as everyone else when some cyclist comes up behind me waiting at a light and then runs straight through the red light. I guess there are retards in every form of transport

    sometimes...

...but it is grand being able to pass all the cage drivers on the left as they sit and wait at the lights! Especially as they had just hooned past me at 60+

Combine the best of both worlds!!!
I have witnessed a minibike using the pushbike path alongside the m'way!!!

I personally prefer cycling to work (Penrose - Viaduct Harbour: 11.5km) over motorcycling - mainly because I feel invigorated when I get to my destination. It takes a bit longer (35min vs 15min), but I don't mind. I hate the stress of filtering in-between queues of cars on my motorbike when I could just hop on the pavement on my pushbike. The only downside of cycling IMHO is having to hold my breath when there's a bus, lorry or other filthy diesel contraption in front..

I take it you mean the FOOTpath, that thing for PEDESTRIANS to use.

    generally YES
...altho there are a lot of wider footpaths in chch now that have cycles painted on them as well and people, combined ones. Mostly at intersections, I use them occasionally.

But I still do at times have to sit and wait to cross large, busy roads...bit of a pain but better than driving still

Start Highbury, corner Hammond Place and Birkenhead Ave:

    1. Car - 23mins (David Herrick, Honda marketing manager, driving Honda Jazz).
    2. Bus - 26mins (Joel Cayford, Auckland Regional Council transport chair, Birkenhead Transport bus).
    3. Bike and ferry - 28mins (Judy Barfoot, Cycle Action Auckland member).

well from my point of view i would have beaten that by ages... i live more than 10km further from town than that, and it takes me about 25mins to travel the 20km distance to university at that time.

It's better to not pass and know that you could have than to pass and find out that you can't. Wait for the straight.

Go through redlights on my pushie all the time, did it in front of a cop once, he didn't seem to mind, just check theres no cars coming and away you go.

It's pretty good riding a pushie, but no so good if you want to take heavy loads in your bag, picked up a couple of evo 3 brake discs once, that was a mission.

I bicycle to uni quite often - 8 or 10 k depending on the way I go, and it takes me about 20 minutes, only running one red light along broadway where remuera road comes in from the right. Probably saves me a minute or so overall travel time. Motorcycling takes maybe 10-15 minutes depending on traffic, so the bicycle compares pretty well, and keeps me relatively fit too.... I generally motorcycle when the weather is bad, and bicycle when it is fine.

I used to go from Mt Wellington to the CBD, by car it would take about an hour to drive, find a park and walk to work, by bike it was 20mins and i could park at work, and i doubt a pushy could have gone the 13+kms in 20mins
