The GSX-R models came along in 1885 in the form of the, now immortalised, GSX-R750 an later GSX-R1100. This to my understanding is where the term "Gixxer" came from with the inclusion of the "R" (guess it has something to do with racer). So the Hayabusa is a GSX1300R with the R tacked onto the end which sort of leaves it somewhere in the middle. This makes sense as the Busa isn't really a track or race bike like the "Gixxers" are rather it is Suzuki's flagship or statement of excellence on the road with high performance road riding/touring more in mind.

Anyway, just got back from a day of riding.
Went through Ridge rd to test the handling on B-class road, and I was surprised on how well-behaved this big thing is. It did not feel that big at all, and in fact felt more planted to the road than my SP1 (I take it because of SP1's hard suspension was bouncing all over the place). I admit it was slower, but it was not slow.
On to Mercer via Pokeno and SH1, then off left to Mangatawhiri through you-know-what's-the-road-name-is road, and again it behaved very nicely especially over the bumps. I carried on towards Kaiaua, and stopped for a private photo session (read: private = self-service). The weather was nice today aye!
From Kaiaua I carried on towards Cleava...Cli....Clevedon....and I found myself was faster on the tight bumpy bits than when I was on the SP1. The ride was very relaxing and effortless too.
The only three things I find disapointing with this bike was (1) braking which has a lot to be desired on, (2) bike getting weavy left and right in crosswind situation, and (3) parking and turning the bike on-feet is a problem for me.
I tried having my wife sitting on it as well for a quick two-up riding (dinnertime) and it is amazing how the bike felt like just if you are riding by yourself. No extra weight at the back like on Blade or SP1. The movement/steering and accelleration are as quick and effortless as single-rider.
I'm glad I got this bike.![]()
