I live in Te Anau at the start of the Milford Sound road. Its rated in top 10 rides in the world, a must do. My advice start at top of south Island, west coast, Milford Sound, Southern Scenic route , Dunedin, Middlemarch, Cromwell, Mt Cook, Banks Peninsula, Kaikoura Coast , Marlbourgh Sounds. Lewis Pass and hot pools are good also. Have a look at www.toddy.smugmug.com there is a lot of my south Is rides on it. Cheers Toddy.

Always a space on a couch here as well.

Feck it - tell us you itinary and some one will meet up with you and show your the real NZ, not the plastic Tiki one we reserve for the bus tours...

south island is the place to go!

Here is a link to a short video showcasing the fantastic scenery of the South Island of New Zealand:

Hope you have a great trip!

Bikers here are generally very friendly and most likely be a member of this site too so just ask!

Hubby, I and another couple are coming to your beautiful country next Feb/Mar for a very special trip. My initial thoughts are to hire bikes for about 8 days to ride around the South island, and also I am really into scuba and want at least to do the whale/dolphin thing. The holiday is 3 weeks long but some of it will be in Aus. We are experienced tourers round Europe and the USA but this is our most exciting idea yet.

The time is going to be a bit pressed for you to see a lot, but if you are looking for a place round Hamilton in the north you could crash with my lady and me...

I use a cage for work and pick up hitchhikers from time to time, usually when they have come out and allocated lots of time to Aus and a really short time to NZ the all say they should have done it the other way round,

I would recomend riding 90 mile beach, just an awesome cruise down the beach, some interesting bits along the way.
If you can't be good, be good at it
