Hmmm. So how much of a 750 would you need to cannibalise to get your one going?

Small voice from the rear: "Who called that bastard a cook?"

This bike has been found and reward paid.
A lady walking her dog in Waikowhai Park in Hillsborough about 10pm on Fri 10th March saw it lying amoungst some trees.
There is a lot of fairing damage. Broken tail light, ignition barrel, engine side cover, rear brake lever, muffler. Missing rear seat, rear view mirror. It seems as though someone has flipped it. Couldn't handle the power I guess. Will probably take about $2-3000 and a fair bit of time to get it back on the road.
should have had it insured... then he would have a new bike, and coulda bought that one back for a track bike.
Oh well, least he got his baby back.

It's better to not pass and know that you could have than to pass and find out that you can't. Wait for the straight.
Just out of curiosity I rang AMI insurance.
They would only do 3rd Party or Full cover. No 3rd Party Fire Theft option.
3rd party premium is $45.55 pa with $750 excess.
Full cover premium for 37 yo owning a $6000 '96 GSXR750 is $795 pa. $750 excess. (I originally paid $9600 for it.)
I have owned the bike for 7 years. If I had it insured the cost would have been:
7 years x $795 = $5565 plus $750 excess
Total = $6315.
Would the insurance company pay out if no disc lock used?
I still don't really know if insurance is worthwhile. I guess I would still prefer to take my chances and just be careful about security. It really is just down to what the individual is most comfortable with I guess?
Well done on getting it back mate. Pity it came at a price. If it was flipped, I would go find some infor from a hospital.

It's not all about you and your bike. Insurance also covers the other parties.Originally Posted by TuckerBag

Before you know it, you've just lost the family home. The whole point of insurance it to protect you. Not just from theft of the bike but for compensation of third parties.
I realise that here in NZ ACC kicks in and you end up with limited liability but I'm sure somewhere along the line, you can be made accountable.
There must be someone on KB that can shed some light on this. Maybe I should open this up as a new topic. I'm sure there will be a number of interested KB'ers out there.

3rd party for $45 p.a. with $750 excess is definately worth it.
