Put Simply, It was one fantastic night for riding. It was actually not too cold and there was no wind. Right upto 9.30pm there was no sign of frost either.

Good pace around the inlet to the Sandbar for a drink, followed by a good blat into town and up the city streets, to the Hotel Bristol where we stopped for food and drink. Sorry for spilling my drink on your helmet IR.

If only all nights could be like last night!

Mike and I, on the other hand, were the mother of all fuckups.

We met up in town for MikeG's virgin run on the m'way. In the dark. In winter. Of course. So we get on the road and are instantly stuck in traffic, leading to MikeG's first go at lane splitting so we might get to the elephant pond on time. Some splitting, stopping, rejoining traffic, surprise at how crap the rear brake is at speed ('stop dude, stop!'), cages behaving like wankers for a while and finallly to top it off taking the turn _before_ the elephant pond and getting just a little lost we arrived! Late!

Damn. So after some chin wagging we rescued the situation by heading back into town and having a gentle roll around the bays for an hour or so. Still, 'tis a bugger we didn't manage to join the rest of you.

Yeah i did give a thought to you guys when i left work (Customhouse quay) at about 6 with 30 mins to get to the pond in_rush_hour_traffic.

well at least you have been on the motor way at it's worst, the rest will be a breeze.
of course it was running slow as well due to a nose to tail, i had a good look for bike bits (or parts of riders) to make sure it was not a biker. looked all good. just dis-gruntled cage drivers everywhere..
Gavin.. who managed to get there in time, meet the guys and go home to work on a mates car. hope to do the ride next time.

Good to meet you guys. sorry to mess up the line up of clean tidy bikes with the 'VF - ground down one side by the road'

    cheers

Too right that! No worries about the drink Dafe, did ya like the cute lil waitress I got to clean it up? I was so tempted to say you'd spilt some on my package too or something smart like that but the way she cooed over cleaning up my helmet and made a fuss over me I kinda felt bad.

Wasp and I had a wicked ride over the Tirohanga/ Harbourview road loop and a stop to look at the view. Man we had fun on Lambton Quay too.

Heres hoping. Not that I can make much noise, but I'm teaching myself to wheelie.

Quite a few firsts last night

    First time on open road
    First time lane splitting
First time riding with someone else
    First time over 70.

Unfortunately not the first time that a cage driver has been a wanker.

Even though I didn't get there on time for the ride still ended up having a good evening with a cruise out to the elephant pond and back then round the bays to top it all off.

Best part is that with a few tips from Dave I feel a lot more comfortable and confident on the bike.

Looking foward to the next one.
