    CBR250RR's and CBR250R's. Differences?

Hi all. Im looking at 2 bikes,

    CBR250RR, 1992, black and silver, 32000ks

    CBR250R, 1991, red blue, 36000ks.

The r is cheaper by afew hundred dollars than the rr. the rr has scuff damage down the left, but the r is apparently mint.

i was just wondering if anyone here knows the exact differences spec wize between the r and the rr models? cheers

Lets hope this time, i can buy one of these bikes before the seller finds another buyer

Motors are the same. Some visual things on the RR are different to the R.

R has single front disc, RR has twin. RR has bananna swing arm, R is normal. The fairings are different. R has 3 spoke wheels, RR has 6 spoke wheels. Thats about it, all of the changes do naff all for performance. Some say that twin discs are better, but the R has a massive single disc whereas the RR has 2 fairly small front discs.

Up to you what you decide. I have an RR and reckon they look better than the R's, but im probably biased

what do you think i should be looking out for on the bike? is there one common thing that always craps out on these cbr's?

Nah, they are really reliable. Both have quite low kms, so that is pretty good. Mine has done 12500kms now, which is really low and there isn't anything wrong with it. They have been known to go more than 150000kms without any major engine work.

Just check the normal things. As long as the oil has been taken care of etc everything should be fine. Take it for a spin and make sure it goes all the way to redline (18000 rpm) alright.

    Hope it goes alright.

damn thats a nice bike. same colour as the rr im looking at. pitty about the scuff damage on the left of the one im looking at though.

if i had a digicam id take pics and post them to get some ideas on the damage.
but im still very confused as to which model to go for, i have a feeling id be more inclined to go for the 91 r, 36000ks with supposably absolutely no scratches, though appaerntly a small scuff under the bike, (going over a judder bar and scrapping?)

Engines have a bit of difference:
The R is tuned for slightly more midrange and has a redline of around 18-19k.
The RR is tuned for more upper end of the RPM, has a redline of 22k RPM, and feels a bit sluggish around the midrange.

    The frames are different.
The R has a straight beam frame, while RR has a more fancy frame with nice bends, said to be more rigid (although it's damn hard to notice).
The R also has straight swingarm while the RR has a "gull arm" which was said to give more groundhugging ability to the rear tyre.

    The fairings are different too.
Both has 2 round lights and 2 air holes (for I don't know what...they're not ram air ducts) but the RR is more modern looking with rounder curves. R looks a bit older.

The RR has twin brakes which (with proper maintenance) can do real nice.
The R has single brake but still can do stoppies. The bad thing about single disc is that it is easy to feel the bike is pulling to one direction (to right) while braking hard. Make the fork harder (put 1cm spacer into the fork) and the feeling will go away. This will improve cornering stability as well.

Footpeg position is a bit different. The RR has 'more racy' seating and feels more stable in twisty road.

I'd take the RR anytime for a few hundred $$$ more if you like scratching twisties.

    Hope that helps.

That is wrong, the R has an 18k redline the RR has a 19k redline, (have taken it to there myself) and that is where the rev limiter comes in on both bikes.

Hmm...the one I tried got much more than that. But can't beat 200kph tho'.
And the R is restricted (normally) to 170kph.

the r wouldnt start, stale fuel ect.

    http://www.bikepics.com/pictures/050150/

this is the exact colour scheme of the rr, i went and tested again.
on tuesday i get it checked out at the workshop, and make my choice from there.
it rides bloody well, i can fault it, but then again i havent had 20 years expereince riding exactly...

the damaged fairing is on the left side, and mainly at the bottom of the fairing. looks like its had some minor repairs to straighten it up.
there is a slight scuff on the engine, that bit that pokes out the side, but not major at all. chain and sprockets look good to me, i think its got the right tension, maybe a wee bit loose.

im so hoping it comes away from the check up with nothing major, i want it i want it i want it i want it i want it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ok its booked in for a check tommorow. going to test compression ect.

Now, there is scuff damage on the fairing, along the left side. I dont think this damage is toooo bad, looks like its had some plastic welding and possibly touch up paint here and there.
one of the clips that holds the fairing to the frame on this damaged side, has broken. the fairing however feels solid, not as though its flapping around or anything.

asides from the drop damage, it appears to be mint. seems to run, brake, and turn well.
the owner wants $4500 ono. the ks are at i think 32 000ks.

what do you guys think its worht>?

    Does that sound really expensive?

For a private sale, surely ballpark is $3500?

I paid $6000 for mine, and if i was selling it i would be dissapointed if it went for less than $5500.

The CBR250's hold their value quite well. Because they are a very reliable and good bike that a learner can ride, they go for alot more than the other 4 stroke 250's.

$4500 isnt too bad, but see how low you can push him.
