    VIN = Vehicle Identifaction Number.

    Cost Depends on what you can afford.

    Why do you want one?
    In older nz registerd bikes they diddnt have vin numbers
    If your bike hasn't been registered or has been deregistered then you have to go through the compliance process,part of which is gettting a VIN number.

    i think it's about $336 including rego. Take your bike to VTNZ for the test.

    It needs to have DOT approved lights, indicators, mirrors, tyres, brake lines and all the usual WOF stuff.

    Hope this helps.

    Total cost = $480 from no plates to legal bike with a years rego. VIN is given to the bike if it doesnt have one. This is fairly easy to do, and doesnt necessarily cost all that procedure. As I recall, a VIN was riveted onto my MZ when it got it's COF. However, with that SRX that you are looking at, I dont think it will need one, or if it does, they should do it at very little cost. It's mainly a matter of riveting a small plate onto the frame, and entering it into the computer - its an ID thingy alot like a frame number, but standardised format for all NZ vehicles

    Coming here from the thread about brake hoses. My GS was vinned after being de-reg'ed for a while. Got it done at VT in Brunswick (?) St, Lower Hutt. At the time it had the braided hoses that are now non compliant, and it was passed no worries. Nice that retrospective legislation can ban something that was once approved. F*cking LTSA - where Bin Laden when he's needed?
    it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.
