    Painting bike plastics

How good does the plastic on bikes look when painted and is there any special type of paint to use?

I have a spare set of plastics which are the standard KX green which I am wanting to paint black.

Could it possibly turn out any worse than that god-awful green anyway? Just give it a go!

You can paint plastic but you have to add a additive so the paint will bend and not crack as much.
I think that it is a waste of time on a dirt bike for the obvious reasons.
Seen it done by a painter and he was always repainting the front guard.
As it was costing him next to nothing to do and he was anal about the looks of his bike he had to keep doing it. (once started doing it)
On a road bike it would be OK.
It would be easier to just buy black plastic for your KX.
And sell your good green plastic.

    IMHO
Feel the fear and do it anyway

Don't shoot me, but could a special plastic spray paint be the plan? Undercoat or primer spray first then top coats. That way you don't get any brush strokes. We did both screens on our bikes with spray paint and they come up pretty good, just lots of fine coats so as it doesn't run.

I just painted my road bike recently. Had no painting experience but brought a compressor and spray gun ($150 supercheap). Took me a few attempts to get it right but ended up looking pretty good. I didn't know your supposed to put an adative in the paint on plastic and it hasn't caused anyproblems yet. But I got some nice marks in the paint when the fairing pannel came off at 200kmh and slid along the road for ages. Time to start again!

Surely Acerbis or Polisport would have replica plastics for your bike, or is it to old of a model?

By the way, the 95 KXs are awesome

It's around $300 for a set of plastics so was hoping to save a couple hundred bucks
