Custom Metal Work

Hi all,

I've gotten really sick of the little Givi eagle thing on the back of my sissy bar and I've removed it (As shown in picture).

Now what I want to do is get a specific shape cut out of metal to fit the back plate and then get the metal chromed, therafter I'll attach it with double sidded tape, my question is this:
Does anyone have any idea where I can get this shape cut out of metal and then chromed? It needs to be in Auckland though, I have the design on the PC (It's the MetallicA ninja star) in the size that I want it and everything.

Anyone have any ideas?

Sticky tape wont keep it on but you could bolt it to the side supports of the sissy baror if the mettal plate behind the eagle is still there then you can bolt it to that. And if you plan it right you can incorporate the bolts into the design.

not knowing anyone in your local area, i would sugest trying the yellow pages. most sheet metel busnes's should b able to help, if not theyd b able to tell who can. As a possability you could use stainless, save getting it chromed.

If it is just a shape you want cutting out, why not get it done in stainless?
It would be cheaper than chroming, then if it is not quite right you can 'adjust it' and not need to get it re-chromed.
polished stainless lasts for ever and once it is polished it washes clean every time.
The amount of little brackets etc I have made, I just use stainless every time, you make it and polish it and it's done, you don't have to wait a few weeks for it to be chromed then worry for the first 6 months if the chroming will last or not.
It aint cheap getting things chromed as it is a labour intensive and hazardous process

There are a few places that spring to mind on the shore.
In Albany industrial Area there is north shore stainless as well as quality stainless. They will be able to cut mild steel plate as they have laser cutter.
Quality stainless specialise in smaller jobs but NSS do the type of thing you would need.Quality stainless is about 150 metres from NSS.
Both are in Volkner place (down by Frank Allan Tyres) on opposite sides of the circle

There is a electroplater in Glenfield and for the work you require doing would probably charge about $70

cant recall the name though but have a look under electroplaters in the yellow pages.

Water Cutting Technology, 8A Neil Park Drive in East Tamaki, cut anything you want out of anything you want. Give them the design, they'll draw it up on the computer and put it through the machine. Like the flow jet on American Chopper if you've seen that.
Can be pricey but just email them the drawing and get a quote, see how you like it.

Note: can't do two tone or anything, there's either metal there or there isn't. In which case you'll need it milled, and I dunno on that front.

Could cut the second "colour" mask out of adhesive then sandblast for the colour then peel off adhesive and a bit of polish whammo!

Yep, that eagle thingy has got 2 go. Have you tried an engraver, a good one can do it in many different materials. Ferric Chloride for example, is used for etching stainless steel, if thats what you want.
