Thanks crashe.:spudwave: I was worried it might have been one of our Tauranga crew. Hope he/she makes a full recovery. It's never good to hear of any person crashing...no matter what they ride.

HXC....you're not awesome...you're just showing your immaturity.

    Cool

Goblin - Apparently, he was racing up and down the Kaimai's showing off, was gonna do one more and then head home.

I hope that he has learnt from this...

Here is her responce back to my email, as I asked her, if she knew anything about the crash.

The rider seems to have taken one hell of a tumble.
If he was heading south on that corner the only way I can picture the crash is that he must have been overtaking a car on a left hand corner and car decided to turn right!

Never passed here myself but then again I'm not a 'gun rider'.

    Who knows....

Hmmmmm, well, doing a right turn there is very illegal, but heaps of clowns do it. That corner is one place I would like to see a median barrier...
In spite of the yellow lines, overtaking opposite the entrance to a scenic lookout is just fucking DUMB.

Ok here's the story as I've heard it. There're father and son locals (can't remember their names) that ride matching green ZX10R's. They've just brought new '06 ones.

Anyway, it was the son who crashed on his week old ZX10R. He was doing a couple of runs up and down the Kaimais, coming back down he was cranked over in the left hander by the lookout. There was a car in his lane that had apparently overshot the first entry to the lookout and so had stopped just around the corner waiting to enter the other entry.

He had nowhere to go and had to lay the bike down. The bike sheared off one of those big concrete posts designed to stop trucks. Can't remember the extent of his injuries but they weren't too bad, I do remember that his helmet somehow came off and he had a slight graze on his cheek.
It's just one of those days, where you don't wanna wake up,
    everything is fucked, everybody sucks,
You don't really know why but you wanna justify ripping someone's head off

Locals didn't have the sense to take that one corner with caution???? That's one corner I slow down for every time, and that is exactly why. It is not unusual at all. Same goes for the corner at the lookout on top of the Tairua hill.
Still, I'm pleased to hear he wasn't hurt.

BTW - lower down (the 2 left handers above the Kauri track and one below) there is diesel/oil on the road right on the natural cornering line. Stay hard in to the left and it's no worries.

I have come across the Father in my travels and he is VERY quick... Can never be quick enough to see the unknown!

I do treat that corner as if a dickhead is gonna pull out on me every time...

Cheer 2much...I had met the father & son last year,(cant remember their names either, just their identical bikes with consectutive number plates) they had stopped while I was waiting at the the lookout for a mate. Shame the Son didn't have the sense to be more aware of the traffic using the lookout. Oh well...I'm sure daddy will buy him another toy.

I know where you're coming from Krusti...the turn off at the bottom is another one to be careful of car drivers not seeing you & pulling out.

I heven't heard this one for years. We all know bikes slow faster/turn better sliding on plastic.

It's shorthand for "I panicked and fell off".

Good read. I have wanted to play on that road for years but never got to it. We did it on the way to Paeroa this year. We were going to play for a while but decided to get to the track and watch some practise and catch up with some KBer's.
I have to admit I didn't even considered the danger at the lookout. Why....cos I don't know it was there.
Lesson learnt.............look read and be aware.......
But what a road. it was dry and clean. the gixxer did it's thing on that road. Darn it was good.
Hope the rider was ok. the bike would have a few leaks after taking out the post.

As for the helmet coming off....I have had to stop and do mine up in the past cos I forgot to do it when moving on. Always worth doing cos Mrs Gixxer 4 ever has told me stories relayed to her of nasty ear injuries when the said lid departs.
Another reason to have a radar detector. You got to plug it in and that reminds you to do up the strap.
