    ZXR Idea??

    Right, well i bought a 1992 ZXR250c with cosmetic damage that had done 19000kms. I thought i could tidy it up and either keep it or flick it off for some coin.
    Stupidly, i never checked whether it was an insurance write off, and was naive as to how much was involved with getting a write off back on the road.
    There was only fairing damage, however the cost of getting an engineers cert. is going to make it a less than worthy project, which pisses me off since it is finished, except for paint, and rides beautifully.
    Sooo...my thought is that since my bike has done 38000kms and has recently had a low side and thus is a tad scratched, i should just swap all parts over onto my other frame, and thus make one mint bike out of the two. I would effectively have a bike that has only done 19000kms and has a beautiful new paint job. I would also replace all the bearings etc in the swing arm, and while my frame is bare, give it a good going over. I could then hock off all of the other parts, or make a racebike.

    My question is, if i deregister my ZXR with 38,000kms on it, and swap all of the parts over, how easy is it to re-register it with only 19,000kms on it?? I assume that it would only require another Vin?
    The 19000km ZXR is perfectly fine, only i am NOT gonna cough up that mush coin for a light vehicle certificate!

    IDEA'S??

    Alternatively if someone has a registered frame they would like to sell, let me know. Has to be in mint condition though.

    How much coin are we talking for the cert? I wasn't aware it was huge dollars??

    As a write off, needs an Engineers Repair Certificate, which means pulling the whole bike apart at the command of a registered certifier and check over. Could cost around 1000-1300. Mainly they check the frame alignment and the front shocks.

    or you just say oh the motor blew up so i changed it to one with less km's?

    dude put all the good parts onoto your road regoed one and use it you don't need to re rego it and crap....

    just make sure you use your current frame which is in the regoed bike so then you have correct wvin plate it's not illegal it's like buying a replacement screen your just ugrading a part...or in this case changing the motor

    Yes it is a low volume cert.

    It is the frame number that gets registered against the VIN number, and hence gets recorded as written off from what i can gather. That is why i want to dereg my 1994 frame and then re-register it as a 1994 ZXR250 with 19,000kms on it, since all the running gear etc, suspension etc. will all have only clocked 19kkms. I am more thinking of resale value on the 1992 project bike. I was hoping to finish it to as new condition, (nearly there too!) and then flick that off along with my 1994 one and have nearly enough cash for a ZX6r 636. Gotta find a new plan to finance the new monster now...gutted.

    I've run into probelms with the engine number being changed against the frame number. Best to check if you'll have the same issue...

    Why go through the hassle of even changing the engine? Is something wrong with it?
