I've got a valentine 1 with a hard system and to be honest it's very average. I usually sight the cops before the detector picks them up - I think most of them are using the instant on mode on the radar and not turning it on till your in their sights. Fortunately I'm not normally speeding on the roads where you normally see cops. It has saved me on a few memorable occasions. It picks up mobile speed cameras well but if you can't spot these you deserve a ticket for being so oblivious.

You must have got one of those NZ/Aus models from wootons.Originally Posted by slopster
No its the US version - they're all the same anyway just come out with different defaults but you can change these. On the plus side it does not false alarm at all. I have not had a single one.Originally Posted by Finn

Some greater brains than ours having been trying to make one to work on Ka band. Haven't seen it for sale yet.Originally Posted by sAsLEX

Who is? And what you saying about my brain! Its just that it would be illegal is the real thing making it hard to sell.Originally Posted by Lou Girardin

Greater brains? Piffle. All sAsLEX is saying is that one could be made quite easily, which is true - technology is already there - the problem is its all about the wattage. You can't jam a 5Watt radar with a 1Watt jamming signal. The only thing stopping people selling 50Watt jammers legally is the communications act.Originally Posted by Lou Girardin

I know of someone very technologically capable who's investigating Ka jammers. Legal or not, acieving the power output is easy (ish)
The biggest problem seems to be jamming the entire band because that band covers wider freqs than X or K.
There have been succesful K band jammers that were killed by the FCC.

Like some others have said here, your best defence is your eyes, and listen to that innerself, cause if he speaks up tells you to slow down, do it.
I have had 3 speeding tickets in 10 years worth of riding, all in the past 4 years(2 of these were due to a bike which had a faulty speedo, was sitting at 65mph(should be 108km/h) found out it was 118km/h)First time i was caught wasn't total sure of speedo but was around that speed, second time i phyisclaly looking at at my speedo when i saw the cop.
3rd ticket, i didn't listen to that inner self that, and was caught at 117km/h.
I have missed paying $$$ in tickets, and losing bike due to listen to that innerself.

Table A-3 -- Select Ka Band Traffic Radar Frequencies
Frequency tolerance for Ka band radars typically ±100 MHz.
Frequency System
33.3 GHz Genesis II
33.4 GHz photo radar
33.8 GHz BEE 36
34.3 GHz TMT-6F photo radar
Multanova 6F photo radar
34.6 GHz PR-100 photo radar
34.70 or 34.94 GHz Stalker ATR
34.2 - 35.2 GHz Stalker ATR (freq hopper)
The introduction of the "stalker" radar gun raised the stakes in the detection game. Unlike all previous guns, the Stalker can be FCC licensed for any frequency in the Ka-band between 33.4 GHz to 36.0 GHz, and so cannot be picked up by detectors designed only for X, K, and photo radar. Stalker guns are being used in more than half the country.
So a quick search shows that there is not that great a variance in the Freqs but the freq hopping thing would be irritating
EDIT: which stalker do we have in NZ?
It goes by the name of Cowpoos.Originally Posted by sAsLEX
