    Ernest Hemingway said that there are only three sports;
    Motor racing.
    Mountain climbing
    Bull fighting
    All the rest are games.

BTW How the hell can you have individual synchronised swimming?
    What does she synchronise to?

Haha, yes we were debating that too, Lou. How can you have individual synchronised swimming?

Actually ol' Ernest is onto something there isn't he. After all it is the Commonwealth 'Games' so it's kind of irrelevant whether it's a sport or not isn't it.

Sports that deserve to be there are sports that other people cannot physically do.

For example anyone can ride 30 laps of any motorbike track and do a full days rugby training, but for joe blogs and most of you here I bet my gixxer you couldn't physically run 42.2k or let alone ride a 220km cycle race and still function normally the next day.

    Food for thought.
    Because I can...

Why do we have the commonwealth games? They're a relic from a bygone era. The Olympic games are for all people not just for a few - that may not even make the qualifying standard for an Olympics.

Why are we celebrating mediocrity (sp?)? The swimmer got 3rd... in a three horse race that's called last.

The Haka is a challenge not a fancy dance that you can pull out any time you feel the need to celebrate.

Sport these days is like art - it's perception that denotes it as a sport....
They shall not grow old as we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the evening,
    we will remember them

Any swiming sucks, should only do that shit if ya' fall in,an if ya' that close in the first place ya' nuts. One CAN catch shit loads of fish with out geting in the stuff.
The Haka, yeah great when it's done well by the right people at the right times.By a bunch of skinny honkys that don't know half the words and even less of the movment,it's a bloody joke.
Should put a large Maori with a big stick in charge of sorting out skinny honkys that disgrace our country by performing it so poorly.
BTW the mighty Paramatta Eels flogged the worriers on the week end,,,,again

Which is a good thing, so we are not inflicted with "amateur sports" like golf, basketball, tennis, ice hockey...

If ya get paid big $$$ to play, then feck off from amateur competitions and stick to your "pro circuit" prostitution.

One good thing about synchronised Swimming

I didn't see them perform the haka. You have to draw the line somewhere with that, or soon the bloody dressage horses will be doing it!!

Next time the synchronised swimming is on you watch it and tell me it's not physical. More physical than motorcycle racing...and I'm not saying motorcycle racing isn't physical, I'm just saying that synchronised swimming is more physical.

Good debate though ain't it fellas!

Have you seen the state of those GP riders when theyve finished a race?
I love the smell of twin V16's in the morning..

Oh yes, I hear ya...not arguing with you there.

But, I would be interested to know what the average heart rate of a MotoGP rider is over the course of the race compared with that of a synchronised swimmer. I know the top synchronised swimmer at the Commonwealth Games has a max heart rate of 220 during a routine so I imagine the average would be up there. It's an arbitrary measure of course given the varying Vo2max of participants but would be interesting to know.

Yeh, when rossi got off after kicking ass in the rain in Donington he was shivering and freezing cold. What they're essentially doing is resistance work as their muscles aren't extending much. Resistance isn't as taxing on you as when you're using full extansion of your muscles.
I've hopped off the bike after 200k's in sub zero temp sleet / snow / hail after races in France, my toes have been cold, but my body sure isn't.

Comparing apples and oranges, but riding a motorbike to your 100% ability is a piece of piss compared to a marathon / bike race / sync swimming etc.
    Because I can...

And riding at Rossi's level or driving at Shumachers? Athletes wouldn't be able to hold their heads up after 5 laps at 4-5 g's.
You're right, it's not comparing like with like.
