Auckland Tank Farm - Have your say

we only get one chanceThe Domain, One Tree Hill and Albert Park are examples of beautiful, well-utilised areas that have been loved by generations of Aucklanders.

Wynyard Point (The Tank Farm) is comprised of 35 ha of prime waterfront land. It has the potential to become a waterfront landmark for Auckland, helping to make our waterfront enviable on a world scale. We need to plan for its future using a much broader context than the Ports of Auckland and Auckland City are currently using.

Auckland City has presented its draft plans for the area and submissions close this Friday, March 17th

Your opinion will make a difference. Please don’t put it off.

sorry if this has been posted but I would hate to see this place covered in apartments.

How about a car park for 4WD's? The salt air will be good for them...
And the ground is flammable too! Heh heh heh

I would hate to see it covered in apartments for the rich priviledged few, too. Well done that man, have an orang-utan. I've sent in my submission.

I have already put my submission in. A combination of European style shops, cafes and restaurants, a recreational area with residential apartments. I live in the area and I don't want my rates paying for a park that will attract all the riff raff from wider Auckland. We already have this problem in Pt Erin Pools. None of the locals use it cause it has a 50/50 ratio of urine to water thanks to all the islanders that inhibit the place. Also, during the summer month's when it opens, crime sky rockets in the surrounding area.

Sounds like the ideal solution to me, Finn. The land needs to be productive and bring in some revenue for the council otherwise there is a risk of another rate hike to pay for the development...

I think it sucks the way some groups in our society are victimised by the law, media and public alike - The Black Power Headquarters in Mt Wellington was busted a couple of days ago,so now they will have to move again and go through all the hassle of marking their turf.We are making it very hard for these guys to settle into the lifestyle they prefer.

I suggest we set up the Tank Farm as a micro enviroment for these victimised groups,a dedicated facility.Well lit hydroponic farms, laborities, dog pits and rape rooms. Each compound would have a proper fortress wall,no more corrogated iron fences to blot the landscape. There could also be a tourist industry around the complex, with armoured buses....mock battles in the streets,TAB on the dogs, join in an identity parade.

I can see no better use for this scungy area....

I think Germany tried this in the thirties and forties. It was for real and did not work.

Develop it so the Auckland City Council can make lots of money. Then it won't need to sponge off the rest of NZ to pay for roads, rail tracks, rich guys yacht races etc etc.

Too strong for me, I'll stick to my monkeys.

A decent landmark building at the end that denotes Auckland. Sort of like the "Nuns-in-a-scrum" that syeeedneee has.

There was a design back in the '70's for an upside down pyramid on the breakwater, that would have been the RNZYS building. Definately different.

Good try Winston - the simple fact is that no matter what mainlanders think, Auckland is the powerhouse of the country and provides funding for whatever bullshit you need in Southland. The sooner the rest of you inbred and feral bastards realise this the better.

The rest of NZ is has been diverting funds for years from Auckland and now it is payback time.

I say this as a West Coaster so don't give me any of this Jaffa crap.

    Kind Regards

AHA - you fell into my wily trap. This "Auckland is the powerhouse of NZ" nonsence has been around for a while. It is repeated faithfully and non-critically by journalists until it has become an article of faith.

It isn't true. NZ's wealth comes from agriculture, fishing, forestry, and tourism. Of those only tourism involves Auckland. Our ability to import oil, cars, computers, machinery etc etc is only possible because we as a nation earn foreign exchange.

I'm not saying Auckland doesn't contribute but it is small-time compared to the provinces.

Tell me of anything essential which I can't get locally or directly from overseas. At present Auckland is the default because so many companies have moved head offices there. But in truth, those offices could be in Sydney or Christchurch for all the difference they make.

Nothing wrong with Auckland or the Kiwis who live there. It's a shame they are living an illusion.
