had 2 bikes pull into work today.....one was harley, the other was vtwin, not harley but sounded the same. the harley rider i noticed had a spare lid on the back and a set of crutches strapped to the side. i automatically thought he must be picking a pillion with a bad leg.
not so....helmet was also his, as were the crutches. very nice guy, talkative. his companion pointed to the crutches and said whats in my subject line. said they have friends whove lost hands and legs and still riding. the guy could stand alright without the crutches, but not walk very well. my co worker guessed hed lost a leg and had a "replacement" [cant think of the word!] but i didnt like to be nosy.

so if ya see a harley and vtwin heading new lymouth way, give em a wave cos theyre touring the north island. heading new plymouth, auckland and then back down the east coast. harley looked to be an older one, both with leather saddlebags. the one with the crutches is rather skinny and the other more solidly built. his bike is long and big...big front end.

I saw a dude in Auckland a couple of years back, riding minus one leg and had crutches attached to his bike as well.


KB, also has onearmedbandit riding on here with one arm.
Maybe one day, Stonechucker will ride again at some stage, but only when he is ready to.

So it doesnt stop those that are Born to Ride.

Respect to him. To get back riding after possibly losing the ability is a fantastic feeling.

Did see a couple of locals on Great Barrier Is one time rock on up to the shops on a bike. They both had various arms and legs in plaster and sticking out from the bike at funny angles, but between the two of them they (just) managed to find sufficient working limbs to manipulate the controls of the bike.

And just how did they get to be in the predicament in the first place? Yup, you guessed it, bike accidents . . .

I was at a trial recently and there was an old guy (my age!) who had an artifcial right leg,both brake and gear lever were on the left.His right hand was too weak to work both throttle and brake,so clutch and brake were on the left bar.Pretty game for a disabled person to take on trials.
