i did a lot of touring back in the 80s on a ZIR and everybody on a bike gave you a wave.... except harley riders.... i thought it was because they couldnt take their hands of the bars because of the vibration.

Maybe it's just a case of slow reactions on the part of the HD rider, so in actual fact many of them do wave, but you just never see it by the time you've gone around the next bend.....

I read an interview with Sonny Barger,he,s the guy who started the Oakland chapter of the Hells Angels in the states,they were the guys responsible for the stabbing and death of that guy at the Rolling Stones concert back in the late sixties.Anyway when asked what he thought of the Harley Davidson,he replied with.There junk,i only ride one because i,m a Hells Angel, if i was,nt in the Hells Angels i,d ride a triumph.He did mention other bikes that he,d ride but cant remember what they were,also gave the metric cruisers a good rep to.This guy is considerd the grandfather of the Hells Angels around the world,it would be interesting to see how many guys in that type of lifestyle would stop riding harleys if sonny decided to hop on a cruiser or sportbike.What i,m saying is that there,s a lot of people riding harleys because they have a genuine interest in them,their the ones that you get a wave from or a decent conversation out of.

Yeah right - (except at motorway speeds a properly tuned 1450 is as smooth as some multis.)

But how much of the modern triumph is triumph,i,ve heard that the motor in the speed triple is from yamaha.Is that true or is the guy that told me talking bollicks.I,ve mentioned the same thing to some of my club mates in the triumph owners club here in wanganui but have,nt got a definite answer.

I'll definitely answer for you then - the heart of the beast is as english as the top left hand corner of a NZ flag.
The engineering comes form places like Cosworth, Lotus, and even has links back to Riccardo Engineering who designed the riccy in the 30's
Like all global products they use components, forks, brakes, electrics sourced from japan spain taiwan italy china and even some for australia (plastic doohickeys) early on.
They visited Japanese and american production facilities to establish best practices in their production lines - but the bikes are proudly and without question produced and manufactured in Hinckley, Leicestishire, ENGLAND.

Triumph Motorcycles UK is a privately owned company and a member of the Bloor Holdings Group - one of the UKs largest.

How much of it is like my old lucas electricted 1976 T120 pissing oil and breaking down all the time? Not much at all.
The last 90,000km on my Tbird have been quite trouble free.

Yeah but,I've heard from my mates cousins sister,who knows a guy who went to school with a brother inlaw who met some guy in a pub who drove the Triumph delivery trucks...that some of the metalic flake in the paint comes from Laos - so they aren't really British after all,so there!!
