    Idle brakes

At the moment, I'm only riding my 929 once a week, on the weekends. I don't mind this too much, 'cos I hate straight-line commuting.

Anyway, after a week of sitting in the garage, when I finally jump on the bike, the brakes feel really soft and weak. So much so that with only a small amount of pressure, the lever can come back to the bar on the first application.

At first this had me shitting myself, but after a bit of use, they come right again, are rock solid, have decent feel, and allowed even a muppet like me to pull my first (intentional) stoppie.

IT's not to do with getting heat in to the system or anything either, 'cos yesterday I took it for a trip up North, the day after my weekly ride, and they felt brilliant from the off.

    Anyone know why this happens?

How often do you change your fluid? How old is what's in it? Who changed it last time?

It was serviced by a mechanic in the Welly region before I bought it, new brake fluid was part of it.

Sounds like maybe air pocket, try a bleed and if that doesnt work get your fluid changed, might have been a bad batch of fluid.

If there's air in the fluid, then wouldn't it fade worse with time as the air gets really hot and expands, rather than get better?

But yeah, I will be doing a fluid change when I get the new stainless lines for it. Cheer.

Whack some DOT 5.1 in it whilst you're at it.

That wasn't me with the 600rr, that was motobob, the old fulla. I had the candy blue 2002 ZX6R, like your old one but with the twin headlights. Sold that for an '03 'cos I got to the point where I was decking it out on every corner, every lap...but sadly the '03 affair was very, very short lived.

Got the 929 now, incredibly easy to ride, and really good for the road. Nice way to get back in to it after a bin. Will keep this for a year or so, and then try something more track focused again...fingers crossed for next time...

Edit: getting braided lines and new pads in a week or so, will bleed them then
