    BMW F650GS Gearbox

I've recently aquired a 2002 F650GS, its an OK bike in an unassuming sort of way but the gearbox is really horrible. Gear changes generate more noise than the exhaust, not grinding metal noise just really really clunky.
Is this normal for these things? I'm interested in other owners impressions of the gearbox (maybe mines not normal, hope not anyway).

Have you done a gearbox oil change??

BMWs have notoriously bad gearboxes, and with the relative quietness of the exhaust on them, I can believe it might make a lot of noise. Still, it does sound bad. Change oil, and ride it nicely for a while. If you are rough on BMW gearboxes they get noisier, and only quieten down after a bit of loving... Also check the chain adjustment and perhaps the cush drive.

Also check clutch adjustment. Maybe its not quite engaging all the way resulting in a clunkier than normal gear change.
