My fxr150 decided to get away from under me!

Of course it had to happen sometime but I'm a bit pissed off that I've only had the bike for 4 days...

So I'm sitting at the lights and the light turns green, I stall the bike and I have a massive line of cars sitting behind me. So I get nervous and start the bike quickly and tried to get going quickly, next thing I know, I gave it a way too much gas and dropped the clutch too quickly and the front comes up real quick and I'm falling backwards watching the bike dance infront of me in a self-destructive manner... Didn't know a fxr150 could pull a wheellie like that...

I picked up the bike and myself alright and I don't have a single scratch which was really lucky but but rear of the bike is all massed up. (the rear fairing is broken, as well as the brake lights, etc....) and the muffler and the rear passenger peg seems to be bent outwards (I think) so that the muffler protrudes out to the side a lot more now (I'll post a pic tomorrow and perhaps a fellow fxr150 rider can tell me if its normal.) Also the front fairing is a little cracked and the metal frame-ish thing on the front that connects to the fairing and the right hand side mirror (hard to explain will post a pic) was bent towards the rider so that it was pulling the fairing towards me and when I tried to turn the handle bar left, the brake fluid reservoir would catch. Had to remove the right hand side mirror to detatch the bent bit from the fairing so that I could ride the bike home which was really fun when I didn't have the right size spanner needed to take the mirror off.

So it looks like I might need a bit of frame bending job which I suppose I should take to a workshop to get done, and a bit of glass/plastic bits to replace on the back which I hope doesn't cost too much from the dealer (don't know any wreackers around here). I'm thinking I'll leave the fairings as it is for now just in case my bike tries to escape from me again...

So lessons learnt today: If you stall, DON'T PANIC! and take it slow, and what ever you do, don't drop the clutch too quickly!. DOH!!!

Can anyone give me approximate prices for the new cover for the brake light (The red bit which makes your brake light red) and the clear glass bit underneath? (I'm guessing that it would be a common part to replace if you get hit on the back by a car or something)

Damn... those were some really technical terms used up there...

Know exactly what you mean, I stalled going home at the penrose roundabout to motorway, 500 impatient cages behind me, fired up the bike dropped the clutch a wee bit to fast and did a fukin big wheelie half way round the roundabout, luckily I didnt drop it or anything probably looked quite funny from the outside, but it was totally unplanned uncontrolled and white knuckled

Gutted for you bob!! Try wreckers for parts, and ring around for costs, cause you never know what they'll charge. I tell you now, the expensive bit on FXRs is the stickers. As to the bent metal, you should be able to nearly bend it back by hand, the mirror stalk is relatively pliable. might need a touchup paint afterwards, but should be doable. They do wheelie alright though huh?!
hard on the clutch, but fun to do... Next time try the stoppie. they do that flippen well too!!

Sorry cant help with the parts, but yeah just did the same thing yesterday. Iv only been riding two weeks, and I HAD MY GIRLFRIEND ON THE BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

was lucky enough to keep it from goin over and just rode it out, didnt hear a word from her till we got home!

needless to say, she asked me to keep the stunts to when I was riding alone!

Thanks Kickaha. Unfortunately I've already ordered the red brake light cover thingy from suzuki for about $25 bucks today... (I really wish I read this first...) but they weren't sure if it included the clear glass bit underneath it and they could find the stock listed for the clear pannel so after seeing what comes through on Monday I might give you a PM. I've also got broken rear fairing but I'm thinking it would be too expensive to replace them and they're not really needed for the function of the bike do they? If you have spare rear fairings though, let me know how much you would like for them. I might take them off your hands.

Otherwise I'm not sure what other parts I need for the bike, haven't had another look at it yet. Will post some pics later today too.

I've popped the front up a tad on a few occasions on my GF170... Haven't had any mishaps when the front is up, although, when you are in a hurry to take off, just lean furthur forward on the bike, which should help considerably

Ok so here are the pics of the damage... On closer inspection The rear indicator covers need replacing too... PM on your way kickaha.

Can other FXR riders please tell me if the exhaust and the right passenger peg is sticking out further than they should? ... That's going to be fun to fix. Probably have to put it into a workshop I think...

Can anyone see any other damage that I haven't picked up?

1). Your 'L' plate is still properly attached... here's your chance to rip it off (and leave the tiniest bit of yellow attached to the bolt holding the 'L' plate on. Seriously, think about it, this is a 'valid' excuse for "My 'L' plate broke off when I dropped my bike officer"

oh, um... to the exhaust part: check the bracket/bolt. from the pic it looks like 'ok' placement, but the bracket should show some strain in which ever direction it has moved (if it has)...

Thanks Zero. I thought it looked a bit strange since the right peg attached to the muffler seems to protrude out further than the left passenger peg.

I wheelied a GN250 when I first got on it, still haven't done it with my DL650 though...

Both of the back footpegs should be the same distance from the frame so it looks like it will need to be bent back. Take off the fairing at the front and bend the mirror stalk back to match the good one, as you can see there is a solid tube then a flexible end bit, which has bent.

Dude... sorry to hear... my FXR is jumpy with the slightest drop if the clutch...
glad you are ok though.... i lost all my fxr pics when my computer crashed on the weekend, so cant help ya.... i couldnt get from neutral to 1st once at the lights.... got abused by cagers.... finally got it, after they were passing me (very dangerous) and then split passed them 50m up the road..... they werent impressed.... good luck fixing it up tho....
