Since last year easter day I'd be around 25k or so now (One year anniversary coming up). I need two bikes to share it out so I can do the loop more

What? - Ride it? Anything over 5,000km is too much
5 - 10,000 is about right
10 - 20,000 is more like it
My arse is glued to the seat - 40,000/year is not enough

Velox's Jade has passed the 100,000km mark which is incredible (for a 250cc/4 cyl getting caned on a daily basis).
MrMelon's ZX6R has done the same.
Change your oil people...
Hey BB, I hear there's a m/bike ride up Makara peak tomorrow - you up for it?

Ive done about 7000km commuting on my two fiddy, and 4000km from my south island tour in the last 12 months.
My cage has done an impressive 900km.
Hahaha I do very close to that in 1 week just commuting to work and back.Originally Posted by Buster
My bike is about 81K with no problems so far. I've put nearly 40K in a year and a half. There's guys in the states who have put over 120,000 miles on their sv's so i'm not really worried about it.
Did you have a particular bike in mind?

You're a bit light on the average kms for a car - it should be anywhere from 10-20 (obviously averaging around 15,000). So if it was 5 years old, and had less than 50K on it, that's light (unless used only around town, like the Punto we bought), and if it had 100,000 on it, that's higher than average. But you need to be a bit smart, and find out the history. F'rinstance, we bought a high km Pajero which was low mileage until the previous owner bought it - he put 100,000 on it in 2 years of running up and down between Chch and Nelson. No big deal, as apart from the suspension components, it was still good.
However, for a bike, which is somewhat more lightly built and highly stressed than a car, you need to be a bit more circumspect. If it's low capacity (400cc or less), then it's going to have had more wear'n'tear than a similar year/mileage larger-capacity bike. A sports-tourer or touring bike with high mileage will probably be pretty good still, apart from suspension. A high-output sprotsbike may well be knackered by 65K km, regardless of how many years it was racked up in.
When I traded my 1997 VTR1000 in at ~72K km 16 months ago, they said it was getting pretty knackered. My VFR is less than 5 years old, and now has nearly the same mileage, and feels (and looks) much fresher. My wife's car is the same year as my bike, and has only 43K kms on it. Still looks and drives like new, but the front shocks are leaking! Go figure...
Some bike courier in London clocked up huge mileages on his VFR - 850,000 miles on two bikes, if I recall.
... and that's what I think.
Or summat.
Or maybe not...
Dunno really....![]()
I'm easing my way back into it. Avoid the BMX track I say.Originally Posted by Colapop
Makara peak, well maybe not just yet.
I bought my current steed at 7,000km on Christmas eve 2003.
I have just looked at my odometer and it's about to tick over 37,000km.
Roughly about 15,000km per year and that is much less than I would like to be doing.:spudwhat:
If I had my way, we would not use the cage and go everywhere on the bike but her indoors has needs and the rest is health and age related, damn it!
I thought when I quit work and got the pension I would just ride around everywhere on my bike, just drifting about all over the place.
Doesn't work like that, Helen Clark and her cronies have devalued our savings so much and steal so much of our investments with taxation (Direct and indirect) and the fuel price increases, food price increases etc are just rocketing past our ability to keep pace.
I had hoped for a three year check on taxation at least if the Nats had got in last time but that does not mean I support them, they are just another brand of socialist shit bags that this country seem to need! F**ck knows why!! (couldn't help that little rant and rage)
Sorry, back to annual bike usage stats. 20,000 to 25,000km per year would be about our average over past years and will be again, in the future, if I get my way. :spudwave: Cheers John.
I do approx 15000KMs a year as I commute between Manukau & Auckland for work (I don't have a drivers licence, so it's the bike or nothing!).
Back in the UK I had a XT 550 that had gone around the clock and was still going strong when I sold it for 750 quid.
I ride for fun and rarely commute on it.
I've clocked 23,000kms in the last year.
I wouldn't mind a SV650. From what I know it would fit me quite well and there'd be very little or no two up riding, but I'm hamstrung until at least September with other commitments.Originally Posted by chickenfunkstar
Yeah I've heard that too - version I heard was near on a million, but who's to argue either way still huge k's. VFR's do hold some appeal in that respect.Originally Posted by vifferman

I know what you mean though, it's hard enough to get by let alone get by with the gubbermint taking even more from ya (after you've paid taxes all your working life). You need to be out on the bike more....

What happened to the range between 20,000 and 40,000km?
I think we need some lessons in how to write survey questions... (written as somebody who averages 35,000km a year on bikes)

10,500k's since new - Nov '05
I'm starting to get worried about resale value, so maybe time for that thou!! And TL Riders got me jealous![]()
:slap:
It was a little tester... I left it out deliberately coz only a very select group ride in that range of k's!Originally Posted by Hitcher
