    1987 Honda boldor 1000

    Hey everyone,


    Looking at getting a bike fairly soon and took a few for a test ride this weekend. Had bit of a spin on a 87 honda boldor 1000 and it seemed ok but theres a few things im not too sure on.

    When I let go of the handle bars at about 60kph i got a medium tank slapper (not quite slapping the tank) - Is that normal on older bikes? Its never happend to me before.

    There was this silver oil stuff on the front left brake disc on the inside (towards the wheel) - what is that?

    The bike had been sitting for about 6 months and was blowing a bit of smoke - how long should it blow smoke for?

    other than that it looked pretty nice, farings and stuff were a bit rough obviously been dropped a few times, but the frame was (to the best I can tell) straight, Im going to get her looked at - does anyone know a good mech on the shore? Im thinking spectrum on barrys point. Ive searched for some info on the bike on google for a while with no success.


    I also saw a nice 81 honda cb650 for sale which had a lot of surface rust on the rear susspension and neaded new seals are these a major?

    i thought the Boldors or garagedoors were 900s but could be wrong i had also heard that they gave problems but that may also be wrong any good mike spannerman will know.

    yeah I don't know, I cant find one on the net, so might be a differnt bike? v strange as is did have boldor on the side :|

    One major thing i left off

    top end has a rattle, is this really bad or kinda bad, or not so bad

    No they aren't, though the shocks may well be past there used by date. The CB650 is a quite underated bike. It's a developement of my '76 CB550F, and that still pulls 160kmph plus at 140,000 odd kms. A neighbors freind bought one that someone had done up a loves it. They'd tried to do the brit bike twin thing but that went haywire and decide old bargain basement jappers where the way to go .

    A few bikes carry the Bol d'or moniker, and still do, was I'm guessing it was the VF1000?

    Thats what I was thinking, I dont know my hondas very well but the vf looks like it.

An extra radiator is included to assist cooling and is integrated into the "wind tunnel" designed fairing.     Excellent.

    I know the 750s had issues up until the gear driven varients where released 1986. May just need valve adjustment. They have 16" front wheels, which i was never keen on. May just need the steering head bearings correctly tightened wheels aligned,inflated and balanced. Back shock on the thing may be tried as well. How many ks has it done? There's bound to be a forum on the internet that specialises in early Honda V-Fours.

    I'd get a mechanic to have agander if I was you. The smoke may just have been condensation moister that has collected in the sump while it was sitting.
    I'd change the filter and oil first off.
