Found out today that this was our neighbour who rides a Guzzi. He was in his own lane and a car going slower than him changed into his lane without looking, and he clipped the car in front of him as a consequence. He and the bike slid along the wall and he did some damage to his arm and leg. He spent four days in hospital, has 22 stitches in his leg and the bruising (10 days later) is still very obvious. The bike's a write-off.

Horrible news. At least he will ride again, if that's any consolation.

I hope insurance covers any problems.

Sorry, I wasn't particularly clear in my earlier post.

Yes, Brian's okay and realises that while it's bad enough, it could have been much worse (he's lucky he didn't get run over). He's looking at rebuilding the bike, and will be back riding as soon as he can.

    Thank you for the concern.

Glad he's okay, sort of! Shows how careful we need to be out there. The car drivers just don't see us! Even if he was riding accordingly, this incident shows how easy it can happen regardless how we're riding. Another thread, mentions a similar type of incident which fortunately didn't result in a crash, but there was a cop on hand who promptly booked the car driver. It was a close call and could have ended similarly.

Send him my best too. Cant be easy having something like that happen! Bloody talk back radio. They think anyone who isn't 70 years old and driving a standard cage is stupid. I got news for them, its their age brackets driving I have the most problem with!

Had some fossil pull out on me not long ago and he had the nerve to shake a fist at ME! Old hat wearing, hairy eared, vintage car driving wanker!

I am glad hes OK !

I know that tunnel well and know how fast everyone goes northbound out of it. For non Wellington riders, the motorway starts from a dead stop in upper Willis Street to the Terrace tunnel just about 200metres away, and thats about 250 metres long and then you come out on the overbridge onto the motorway proper. This happens to me all the time on that motorway. You have to constantly watch the traffic each side or keep in the left lane. I have to admit we were discussing this accident in a early thread because I overheard a witness'es account and he wasn't too happy with the rider either. Still these things happen and the main thing is hes OK though no doubt sore. I am amazed how luckyhe was knowing how fast the traffic is coming out of that tunnel and into the sunlight which would distract drivers whom may not have seen him on the road. Give him best wishes from me !
