Tripping the lights

Hi all, just something I wanted to get your opinions/advice on.

There's an intersection (the one joining Alex Evans and Symonds Street) that I can never trigger at night when I'm coming home from work. I'm not sure what kind of crazy mechanism operates those lights but I do know I have to sit and wait for a car to trigger them from behind me before it will let me turn right on to Alex Evans from Symonds Street.

Now, I searched the archives on here but didn't really come up with any solution to this other than some contraption that hasn't been developed properly yet.

Anyway, I'm wanting to know what other riders do in this situation. It has gotten to the point where I've had to just wait until absolutely no other traffic is around and taking the red arrow. I doubt we're legally meant to do this but really, other than taking a completely alternative route, what are our options if we can't trigger them by ourselves?

when i worked nights, i was able to work exactly which lights would be green and made use of those....on the odd occasion they werent green, i would carefully make my way around the corner [turning left on to a bridge] because i took the same route almost everytime, it meant if they were red, i was still able to go without endangering myself by crossing a whole intersection.

lights are a bitch....they just dont see us and in the middle of the night, its likely if you have to wait for a car, youll be there all night.

How hard can this be!?! - All you have to do is make the briefest contact with the ground with your side stand. - tip the bike over on it for half a second and the lights will change.

But hell no - it's lets all go buy magnets or some palarva.

That particular lane (on Symonds, turning right into Alex Evans) is a total nightmare, even in a car. I've had to run the red in my car more than once because the sensors just fail to activate. I've tried repositioning myself forward, back & sideways (no smart comments please) and the light stays red.

So maybe it's nothing personal against you?

But I have a nice hollow part in the heal of my boot... perfect for putting and magnet in...
