It should slip through pretty easily, but if it's clunking and clashing you'd better learn how to it properly. If you are having a lazy ride use the clutch....if you are pushing it you won't have time.just flick it through.

    Ooh this can of worms.

It is all ways best to clutch.

And I would say that changing up when not under power like you are doing is OK as well.
If you can time your down shift's when your rear-wheel is in the air you are OK as well.
When I raced my KX250 (97) for two years and only used the clutch at the start and the end and at hairpins corners and if the revs were down I just stomped it down and my gear box was OK. (touch wood)
But I would not like to say that it the best thing for it, but they seem to handle it.

One way of doing a good shift down is to put a little weight on the lever going in to the corner, power just off and not braking and it will when it's right it will some times just pop down a gear, and that is when the load is off the gear box and it's all loose and free in there.
Feel the fear and do it anyway

There are alot of highly educated idiots out there.
