    Locking off threads

    interesting.

it's a funny old place, this kiwibiker.

cops gets slagged off, their integrity called into question with no justification, threats are made, senior members are belittled by relative newbies, suppressed information is discussed in open forum, etc etc etc.

then someone turns up out of the blue, with a thread from WAY out left, receives a bit of jippers for it, and the thread gets locked?

it's a bit like all the boys being at the pub for hours, then someone walks in, tries to join in, but feeling a bit picked on gets the barman to tell the boys to stop having the conversation. hey i know, how about the newbie either joins in, has a reasoned conversation, shuts up, or leaves.

    just my observations.

Hasn't this thread been locked yet?
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

I agree with what the mods did.

Someone opened up a topic that must have taken shitloads of guts, looking for others in the same situation for reasons unknown - support, possibly to help them, to document experiences to assist others...

And the majority of responses took the piss straight off the bat and had who knows what level of effect???

I personally think the thread should be deleted (if those starting it want it that way).

KB may not be the ideal forum for stuff.. but for fuck's sake - if someone puts up their hand asking for help with an issue of that magnitude... and I stress - I don't care where or when - you guys should leaping over each other to either help, or get out of the way while others can.

    1. If senior members cant handle a bit of stick then thats thier problem....no reason to get all upset and lock a thread, which is proberly why it doesnt happen I would think.

    2. Suppressed infomation is obviously no longer suppressed if its on an open forum now is it........

    3. If I was to be threatend on the "internet"....... do i even need to finish that? Stick and Stones will break my bones but 01010101110010101010111 will never hurt me

Courtesy lads, courtesy. And sensitivity. Cops we may assume are fairly tough buggers, not too emotionally fragile.

But, if a cop asked for posting to stop in a thread that said cop had started, cos the slagging was getting too much to deal with, I'd lock it. Assuming that people didn't have the decency to respect the wishes of the thread starter, and affected person.

Maybe everyone isn't a rough tough biker. Bikings none the worse for having a few gentler and more sensitive types involved. Just means having a bit of consideration for other peoples feelings , eh?

Excuse my flippancy. Hadn't read the locked thread.....but I can see why it became necessary. Locking a thread sends a signal to those that like to get the boot in. Unfortunately it does not stop them from starting a new one on the same subject. I guess the SinBin awaits them then if they are not already in it?

i admit that my postings in the ED thread may have been a bit cold and insensitive.. but..i have to say that, for right or wrong.. they are my honest opinion.. i sincerely apologize if i offended anyone or caused any undue hard feelings or mental anguish.. that was not the intent..

yes it is a problem ,, that is not under question.. yes it takes some balls to come forward with it ..and even bigger balls to beat it .. but it is not (in MY opinion) a 'DISEASE'.. like alchoholisn, drug abuse, porn addiction or problem gambling, it starts as a personal choice.. where it goes from there depends on the individual..

be stronger than your brain and the glut of mass-media propaganda and you will come out ok..

I'm sorry, but if you're that sensitive, you should not be revealing certain personal info in public forums.
It's commonsense for God's sake. Not everyone is nice, or even cares.
On the other hand, some posters turn totally feral when cops post. Their reply's have nothing to do with the thread, they're just an excuse to abuse cops.
While the Police as an entity are not my best friends, some of the crap being posted here just pisses me off.
Those people should save their venom for when they're face to face with a cop. But I think they'd then be very polite and 'nice'.

I should think so - it would be unwise to release you 'venom' to a cop you've never met before and who may have just pulled you over to give you a friendly warning!!

Save you venom for people that actually deserve it.

I suppose there is justification to having moderators in a forum such as this, but it's up to who to decide what is appropriate subject matter? I would have thought that if a topic was not all that interesting or descended into shit slinging then it would simply just become yestredays news. Why was this subject so offensive that it had to be locked?

On the other hand this is a bikers site and some topics have to be questioned "what is the relevance?". Is it a case of "I am a biker so therefore whatever I talk about or have an interest in, is biker news". Anything posted on an open forum is open to debate and a debate usually in the 'free' world consists of opinions fopr and against.

'BLING' Awarded. If your looking for someone to open your heart to I think the last place you should do it is on an open forum where the majority of people are strangers and couldnt give 2 shits about you.
You should be ready to recieve all sorts of reponses.

Cops on the other hand need to take a hard pill. They are paid for dealing with the scum and dregs of society.
If they signed up thinking they were going to be helping old Mrs Jones get across the road maybe they should consider a career change.

    I'm with MDU-
also i don't think there's any hard and fast rules - but in with this particular locked thread the person was obviously getting hurt & it was a good call to back it off. mostly i'm a fan of dog eat dog mostly - but i understand that it seems like a contradiction given the some of the UBER warfare rark super heated threads of late. but we are a lively sort of a bunch after all.

ps sarge-it's ok we know your a silly bugger , but you won't qualify for truely evil bugger yet.

Yep, post ther initial request on open forum and ask for PMs, save having all the vultures flapping in and stuffing it up.

"They are paid for dealing with the scum and dregs of society" - since when did I get paid anything for dealing with the members of KB????
