Something entirely different. Having grown up in Northland/Whangarei, I have fond memories of those wonderful summer rides with my mates along the numerous country roads and connections to SH1. Dont you just love those cattle trucks especially when the hoses are on the wrong side of the truck and when you get stuck behind one on a stinking hot day. I recall going on one run down to Auckland many years ago with a mate taking his mint Yamie 650 twin Special to sell there. We got behind one of those dicks whom like to swing their rear ends around to ensure every bit of dry cow poo gets you to a range of 100m. My mate was a very pissed off biker and had to spend quite some time to reclean and polish his pride before we could sell her. So.. what sorts of 'greenie' experiences have some of you folks had out there ? I cant think of anything esle worse to get stuck behind but I am sure there must be some great stories out there. Come on... lets see who can come up with the grossest thing to have happened.

I twice had a job working on stock trucks,for the same company - both times I failed to show up on the first day.When I was a kid my uncle had a stock truck (Commer TS3,whoo hoo!)When you work with them all day you don't see the problem....

You can see the tell tale signs before you see or smell them,time for a detour or rest if you can't handle it.

I've not had probs. I find more problem with spray from car wheels on rainy days in town. get's kinda gritty with no goggles or visor at times,

nasty fuckers, them cattle trucks....followed one almost the whole way to wellington from just outside levin somewhere.....the crap was quite moist so it felt like rain......cow rain with an openfaced lid......in the end i got a long passing lane and a fair bit of speed and overtook the bugger. yuck. but on the whole i try and keep either a car or the equivalent space between me and said trucks.

Hitting a bee swarm at 80kmph.. now that was fun! I had to stop the bike, get the jacket off and helmet off with bees inside them. Carefully shake both and didnt get one sting. Then there was the blackbird whom decided it wanted to land on my tank at 100 kmph. Unfortunely it misguarded its flight plan, hit me in the chest and fell down onto the tank between my legs where it stook its head, looked at me in disgust and promptly flew off again! Travelling up north of Kaitaia, like I plan end of the year??? FGS - watch out for flocks of semi wild turkeys ! I have relatives on farms all up that way and they and their neighbours 'farm' turkeys so they tend to roam all over the place. I use to shoot them with the .22 at xmas time for them but one year nearly got taken out by a flock on my trail bike heading to Kaitaia. Oh.. then theres sows and cattle but I am sure theres a lot of you out there with stories as well about those events. Want sheep events?? Try doing the ride all the way up the East Coast through to BOP... great wild country and dangerous roads.

a total idiot. I have nearly always used full faced helmets. You only need to cop a stone hurled by a car from roadworks in the face once to convert you. I have had one visor cracked by stones so imagine what that would do to your eye or cheekbone.... Still, its just part of riding like the fact that you will get wet riding bikes some days.
