Ahh gasoline ,,its all a mixture of different stuff designed to do different things , and a engine designer will design an Engine for the gas e.g the cbr 250 , high reving small chambers, uses 91 in the current singapore form ( or were ever its distilled )as 98 ?? or what ever is called will leave deposits on the plug ,,ie not get hot enough , quick enough
Summer winter , its different gas ..the volitiles are different ( now this is a quick reply as I have some drinking to do )

Soo, If you fill the gas tank up to the to ..the ONLY place the volitiles have to go is through a wee tiny hole in the gas cap ..ie takes a long time , but it will happen.

Carbs have LOVELY big holes,,, vents, jets , screwdriver holes ,,and the volitiles will dissapear real quick ....leaving .....

the heavy stuff that is designed to burn at a higher temp ,,, ,
leave that and you go green , with pond life ,,,, leave that ,,,and you start drilling jets

and in iceland it takes forever, here in the tropics can take a few weeks to a month

Oh btw I have never seen a rubber o ring go hard if its in the right environment.

age will do it , vibration will do it chemical attack will do it ..
but gasoline gets blamed for far to many things these days ...oh your bike runs badly , you are using that new unleaded ,,,,* I think there was once in NZ when they changed refineries , to maybe singapore and the blend wasnt suited to NZ older fleet ,and yes there were isolated cases ,,,

You're right, BUT I went out to the trusty old Stihl today, had been on the shelf for 4 weeks with 1/4 tank of gas in it. Filled it up with the same fuel I mixed 4 weeks ago. Away she went for and hour and a half till it was time for lunch. I like the fact that that when you buy a quality engineered product that they are tolerant of the fuel you feed them etc.

Actually I threw a 5 litre can of fuel into the old (7500 hrs on the clock now) Honda 300 farm quad cos I wasn't sure if it was 2 stroke mix or not. Normally the can is reserved for the chainsaw but better to put 2 stroke mix in the bike than straight fuel in the saw.

Bike didn't seem to blow much smoke, so maybe it was straight petrol???
