Thread: Biodegradable Oil.

    Biodegradable Oil.

I've been using Silkolene oils for quite awhile now - and one of their claims is that it's biodegradable.Doesn't sound plausable to me,so it's in the front line for a test eh what??

My forecourt has been dug up for a 50,000 litre tank and an overflow tank,so some nice new perfectly clean and absorbent concrete out there. The TLR200 was due for an oil change,it hardly gets used,I'd be lucky to do 10 trials a year,so a max of 20hrs on the oil,and most of that just idling. But I change it every year,no matter what....and it's like new,a clear red with a dark tinge in the bottom of the tray.I put a little of this on the clean concrete....and as a control,a little used ATF,almost the same colour next to it.

A couple of weeks later I can't see where I put the Silkolene,it's gone completely...if I look hard, well maybe that bit there could be very slightly darker. You can certainly see where the ATF still is,looks like someone spilt some oil there, and the rain forms into droplets on it,but not where the Silkolene was.

    Scary eh?

i take it, it still has the same properties as regular oil in an engine?
The oil comes from the ground anyway, so stick it back in, might be able to get it back out in 200 years..

I accidentally got some Silkolene chain oil on the tarmac outside the gargre about 2 weeks ago. I'll have to post up on here if it dissappears or not

Got any photos of your TLR200 by the way?

Chain oil is made to be sticky stuff,be a tough call for it to break down,or at least the sticky part anyway.I spilt a little Silkolene 2 stroke on the path at home and it disapeared, that's why I thought I'd try it out on some clean concrete.

Got photos of the TLR200 at work,I'll post them on tues.

Just an update - after Easter and in the rain today the ATF stain is much lighter and the water not forming droplets, looks pretty damn good for an oil stain. But the Silkolene had done something too.I have put some 4x4's in that space today, the concrete is covered in black tyre marks, but not where the Silkolene was,it's beautiful clean concrete, you can see the exact place I poured the oil....strange indeed.

And this is the TLR200 alarumba...

    Oh,and BP Mt Roskill sunhuntin.
