    Hiya Mikey,

I'm working on getting a Wellington bike park map to post on here (I work for WCC Roading).

    The Backbencher? Where's that?

In Kate Shepard Place. You have to enter via Molesworth St (one way going uphill). Backbencher is on the corner of Kate Shepard and Molesworth. There's a bike park halfway along on the left. (I think)

Definately one on Atikin st, One block north of Kate Sheppard.

And where oh where did the bike park outside Courtenay Central go? That's right, they turned it into a bus stop.

Yeah, that really pissed me off. That was a very convenient wee park, just outside the movies.

Me and my brother rode to the movies last week, and HEY, where did it go??

Seeing as you work for WCC, I wonder if you can you tell me what it is about NZ city councils that makes them think its not on that we park on the footpath? Go to any number of decent sized cities overseas and you see they tolerate bikes on footpaths. WTF is the deal?

I've never had any problems when parking on the footpath in Wellington. Where are you parking???

I'm on the footpath everyday outside my work, although I probably get away with it as it is really wide and I park under a tree, so people generally wouldn't walk there anyway. Not good when the birds have had too much to eat though

Speaking of WCC ... there was a big push by KBers about 8 months ago when the WCC were considereing charging bikes $8/day for parking.

They backed down real quick when flooded with emails from bikers pointing out that would make fuel-efficient, space-saving bikes pay the same for all day parking as cars.

Yeah I got replies from a few of the City Councilors (sp?), I don't think it ever would have got though but, a good exercise in voicing your opinion.

The mayor voted to charge us for parking our bikes. Remember that when it comes to your voting time.

If I had to pay the same as a car, then I guess I might as well fill up an entire carpark, not just 1/5th of one....
